"I don't know, just staying here for the day and read something?" Said Joan, unsure how to respond.
"Sure, any suggestions?"
"Well, I have a book here called Unlocking your True Purpose. It is really good, I can recommend it. Want to read it together?"
Katie wasn't sure how to react, since she had no idea what the book was about. In a spastic moment Katie said:
"YES!" And was now feeling awkward about the jelling.
After an hour Katie and Joan were still reading the book on the bed.
"Man, this book is good." Said Katie.
"I knew you would like it. This book has helped me survive the last couple of years." It was silent for a moment. Joan then continued: "You know Katie, I am not gonna lie, when I first saw you, I thought that you were just some dumb bitch with a lot of friends. But you turned out alright."
"Thanks. You're not so bad either."
The two girls looked at each other in the eyes. Then they both had a smile on their faces. "Joan is a lot more fun then I expected. You can almost say-" Katie stopped her thinking.
Joan suddenly said:
"It is already 1 PM. We have to go to the entrance of the school to listen to the principals speech."
"Can't we just stay here?" Asked Katie.
"No, it's mandatory. They instantly know we won't be there."
"Crap! Well, I guess we should go."
"I guess. But after it is over I go strait back to my room." Said Joan in her uncaring voice.
"Me too!" Said Katie, and they left their room.
Katie and Joan stood behind the crowd, listening to the principal, when suddenly a brunette came towards the girls.
"Hey witch, found another doll for the dollhouse?" Said the brunette.
Joan looked at the girl in shock. Her eyes widened at the sight of the girl. Katie saw a deep despair in Joans eyes, like there was some last small bit of hope was crushed in a millisecond.
"G-Gretchen?" Said Joan in fear and disbelief.
"Yes, me, doll."
"But you were going to Los angeles."
"Change of plans. This school would be better for my intellect. Besides, I didn't want to lose my favorite doll." Said Gretchen with a sly, evil grin on her face.
"Leave me alone! You already ruined high school for me! You won't ruin college for me!" Said Joan in anger.
"I won't? We'll see. Girls! Get our doll." Suddenly four other girls walked towards Joan.
