Work Attire/Wait for the Highway Patrol

From Create Your Own Story

No wristwatch, no way to pass the time except squashing bugs and listening for rattlesnakes - and on top of that, you're hungry. The morning is painfully slow, and each truck that passes is a temptation. At long last, you see a highway patrol car, and you run out, waving and yelling (and smarting from everything you step on).

The car pulls over. The patrolman's a fat guy in sunglasses with a bushy ginger moustache. Even if you were in a better mood, he would not inspire you to further adventures just now. "Miss, what's going on?"

In your eagerness for him to arrive, you forgot entirely to come up with something to tell him. So you give an abbreviated version of the truth: You went to a party at that abandoned house over there, they must've slipped something in your drink, and when you woke up your clothes were gone.

He asks if you were sexually assaulted. Without thinking, you tell him "no" - you and that voice will have to talk that out later - and that all you really want is a ride home. He gives you that and lends you a blanket to cover yourself. When you reach your building, he goes inside for you to get the manager to unlock the apartment. He escorts you up. You are not tempted to offer him "thanks" - except a sincere, verbal "thanks."

He goes. You raid the icebox and wolf down two meals. You shower again. You flop down in bed and sleep through the afternoon. You dress for Jessica. She returns, glad to see you back. "I was getting worried," she said. "I had to pick my own clothes today." She spent the day in a low-cut v-neck and miniskirt - not far off from what you had in mind for her. "But are you all right?"

Jessica looks fresh and happy from her spicy, exposed day. Yours ran away with you. Common sense says you had a lucky escape and it's time to stop this. But does common sense have all the answers, really? Maybe you're not ready to call off the fun.
