Try again to cross Vancass' bridge

From Create Your Own Story

Gingerly, you reach the foot of the bridge and try the first plank. It seems solid enough, and the ropes feel taut as well. You take one step, and another. Below you, the hill begins to curve away. Looking ahead, the bridge stretches another two hundred yards at least, with the drop below reaching double or triple that distance. It seems to be holding.

You take another step forward, and the wood creaks and groans – a sound that would be ominous, except that it tells you the bridge is sound. Your confidence is increasing. You have outfoxed the little Goblin! You take another two steps forward, until you reach the point where the bridge fell away before.

Behind you, you hear a noise, and turn to see Vancass emerging once more from his shack. He looks at you with a stony expression that is impossible to read.

"Let me cross, Vancass!" you demand. The hunch-backed creature shakes his head. He calls out:

"The winds of fortune lead us a merry dance,

"One life, one body, one soul, one chance."

Then he waits to see what you will do.
