After another hour of searching through the Pilfer Grass, all you have to show for your efforts are the locket, and a beautiful red flower. Meanwhile, disaster has struck – when you return to your backpack you find most of your money has gone missing!
You've probably spent too long here, though. You toss the useless locket and the flower, and collect your remaining belongings.
You walk on for several hours, guarding your belongings closely, through deep thick forest. Eventually, you reach the once more, well upstream of the village you were avoiding, but now the path goes across it. Beyond you can see a long, wide track, with trees lining the left-hand edge and a wide field of long grass on the right. In the far distance, a curl of smoke indicates a village. The evening is beginning to draw in: it would be good to reach town before the light is gone.
It seems safe enough. You stride confidently across the bridge, and reach its apex in time to see a man, hurrying up the path on the other side towards you. "Halt!" he declares. "This is my bridge, and to cross, you must pay the toll!"
