Malinovyĭ: Go with the rest of the group and place the flag on the rock

From Create Your Own Story

"Yea, it´s probably nothing. Just get back in the spaceship and focus on recuperating," you inform Aelita.

"Yes, thank you, good luck," Aelita says staggers back into the spaceship.

Sergey watches the proceedings without much apparent interest. "Kerim, roll out the rover. It will take us there faster." He orders as Aelita is back on the ship.

"Yes professor," Kerim says and quickly fetches one of the spaceships automobile then drives it out onto the planet. You, Sergey, and Yamuna climb into the vehicle and take off.

...

The strenuous climb up the steep rock is taxing on your body, but not really dangerous. You climb in second place, just behind Sergey.

"Almost there," you hear Yamuna say behind you. When she and Kerim discovered that it wasn´t going to be a easy climb up the rock they both silently pulled their support for Sergey´s plan to set up the flag on its top.

Sergey unwraps the flag, letting the red symbol flow free in the wind, the golden hammer and sickle proudly represented on this red planet. He reaches the top, and abruptly stops. Sergey drops the flag, his grip on it just losing all it´s strength. You swiftly grab it before it can fall down the rocks steep sides.

"Watch it Sergey you almost dropped the flag!" you yell at him and grunt in annoyance. Then you get up to the top, and yourself stop abruptly. Yamuna comes after, and experiences exactly the same reaction. Then finally Kerim arrives, and is completely alike his three cosmonauts. All four of you stand shocked in silence. All eight of your eyes staring straight at an American flag mounted on the top.

There is no mistaken it. Red stripes and white stars on a blue background. It is the symbol of the capitalist America. In your ten years you´ve never encountered a situation like this before. You stand there staring at it for a long while.

A heated argument ensures.

Whoever is the first human to arrive on a planet and put ones flag there is its rightful owner. Planets are marked if they belong to either the USSR or the Americans. The database is shared without secrets, and is updated as soon as the claim is made. The entire system is designed to prevent events that can lead into international conflicts such as this. This is a crisis, a situation you´ve never encountered or even heard of before.

"How could this happen!?"

"The American´s where here before us!?

"Why didn´t base-command report that the Americans had claimed this planet!?"

You are all verbalizing your thought and questions. Confusion, nervousness and even a hint of fear runs through your bodies. Something like this was never supposed to happen, where was the mistake made?

Sergey breaks the pattern. He seems to find his cool quickly and grabs the red banner out of your hands.

"Wha..." you begin to say but Sergey is already walking, straight for the American flag.

"What are you doing Sergey?" Yamuna shouts at him.

Sergey starts wrapping the American flag around it´s pole.

"Stop that! What are you doing!?" Kerim yells.

"This planet, planet Malinovyĭ-T361, was not listed as an American planet in the database." Sergey says and finishes wrapping the red, white and blue flag around the pole. He then yanks the pole out of the ground and replaces it with your own USSR flag. "Since it´s not listed in the database, it is not an American planet. Thus, I hereby proclaim planet Malinovyĭ-T361 a colony of the Soviet union." Sergey turns around to face you with a sly, confident smile.

"Think about what you´re doing Sergey. This is an international crisis, removing their flag isn´t going to help things," you warn him.

"I agree with Mikhail, Sergey, let´s not make things worse." Yamuna agrees with you.

"Yea, besides we don´t know what Americans are out there. It could be an entire military base!" Kerim exclaims.

"Hmm," Sergey chuckles, "I am the leader of this mission, so I say we replace our flag for theirs, and take this flag back to base. We´ll report this to the base. They´ll decide what to do next. Agree?"

"Agree," Kerim says.

"... Agree," Yamuna says after some hesitation.
