Some things just aren't meant to be, you decide as you make your way back into town and to your home. Your family isn't home, all of them preparing for the big feast in your honor. You don't particularly feel like attending a party, but you suppose you don't have any choice. You change you clothes and go to the feast, where the mayor makes a grand speech about your bravery and sacrifice. Later in the evening, you meet an attractive young man.

You date the young man for a year, then marry him. You are moderately happy for several years, until you find out that your husband has been cheating on you. You divorce and live a quiet life, maintaining a few casual relationships, but you never again allow yourself to fall in love, the sting of betrayal too painful to risk it happening again. You visit the lakeshore frequently, but you never again see Cuttle.
