The best thing to do, you figure, is just to leave. So you pack up a backpack and another bag with things you need. Regrettably, the only mode of transportation you have is either a bus or a bicycle, you never got a driver's license or a car.

Among the things you pack are a few changes of clothes, an emergency medical kit, a hunting knife, a canteen, a tent, a compass, a box of disposable lighters, a small flint and steel striker, smart phone, and a rechargeable flashlight. You have more, but everything else is more or less superfluous.

Now you just need to pick a destination.

• You're prepared for it, technically, why not go camp in the woods for a while?
• Thornton, the nearest major city. Loads of people in situations like yours go there, why not you?
• South Hills, a small town surrounded by farmland that's not far from where you live now.
• Go as far in the general direction of 'away' as you can get on your bike.
