You decide to lie to the doorman in order to enter the building and check it out. You try to speak but your throat seems clogged. You clear your throat. "I am here to visit a friend."
The doorman grows suspicious. "Oh yeah? What's the name and floor? We can call them up and let them know you've arrived."
You step back. You can't deal with this right now. "Nevermind." Your voice is professional and strong. You turn around and start to walk down the street pretending where you are headed.
You hear the doorman murmur, "Bum" and you wonder how bad you really look. Then you notice the towering monstrosity of the city and panic sets in.
