That conversation didn't exactly go the way I had hoped. I had hoped for a more clear understanding of what happened in the stadium. Why were only Lauren and I shocked?
There was no safe way to electrocute someone. Safety involved preventing electrocution, not causing it. I couldn't figure out a way to recreate what happened at the stadium without putting one or both of our lives in danger, and that worried me.
As I was pulling into the campus entrance, my phone illuminated with the arrival of a new text message. It was from Shawn: "Are you awake?"
Shawn was Lauren's boyfriend, and this type of text message likely only had one meaning...
Then again, I could use this as an opportunity. Despite my appearance, I was still a man, and there is no way I'm going to have a boyfriend. I could just reply and go see him to break up!
"I'm awake," I replied. My phone buzzed nearly as soon as I put it down. I pulled over to the side of the road and looked at my phone.
"Come on over," he said.
Lauren had told me which dorm he lived in when I was visiting earlier. I drove over and walked into his building. I went up a flight of stairs and knocked on his door. The question was how straightforward I wanted to be.
