I really didn't want to go. I opened up the banking app on my phone. Lauren had plenty of money, why was she working for peanuts? She might enjoy working for small change, but I didn't. I picked up my phone and called the bar.

The manager, Mark, picked up the phone.

"Hi, Mark," I said. "I'm really not feeling too well, and don't think I should come in today."

"Lauren, is that you?" he asked. "This is your fourth call-out in two weeks. You can't keep this up."

Apparently Lauren didn't take the job very seriously either. "I quit then," I said.

He seemed taken by surprise, "Okay then," he said. "Goodbye."

I felt so free! I just ended a relationship and terminated my employment! Nothing can hold me back! And now I've got all afternoon to focus on my device.

I think I could build a variable voltage supply, but I didn't know how much voltage I needed. I continued working on my schematic and created a parts list. The local electronics store should have some of these items and I would have them instantly, or I could order them online and get them in a few days.
