There's a few cars in the parking lot, a red sedan, a black pick up truck, and a blue minivan. All look deserted and the minivan's windows are smashed.
The group splits up to check the cars, and Nathan and I wander over to the minivan. Inside is a stack of library books, assorted folders and papers, and other fairly normal stuff. Nathan hits a button on the dashboard and the trunk pops open. We check it, and take a step back. Inside is a dead body. I'd be afraid that it was a zombie, but the head was already gone, as if someone had bashed it in and then fled. Next to it was a black crowbar with blood spattering the top.
The others had also found stuff. Jason and Zoe returned from the pickup truck carrying a bag which, when opened, revealed tins and cans of food. Jimmy sat up, looking a lot better and began rummaging through the bag. Jon laughed, "Of course, Jimmy. It took food to get you better."
"Hey, come on man," returned Jimmy. "Food is important. I haven't eaten in like two days."
Elena and Eli hadn't found much in the blue car, just a few packs of cigarettes, and a copy of The Great Gatsby. We tossed them into the bag. None of us smoked, but they'd make good barter material.
"Let's move out," I said.
