You alter your course so you go to the western world, before the knights in shining armor, before chivalry, and long before age of the musket. This is a time of swords and blood. A time somewhere between the fall of the western-half of the Roman Empire and the lifetimes of such warriors as William the Conqueror or Genghis Khan would come to pass. A time before the Cross dominated the whole of the continent.
Christianity is still young and paganism of all forms is still abound. With your presence, you could potentially cause a religious turnover, if for no other reason than to spit on the man upstairs. Alternatively, you could settle for straight-up chaos. Either way, you’ll make sure history doesn’t end up the same, for better or worse: probably for worse.
You weave your way through time, passing the the sailing of the Mayflower, the Fall of Constantinople, and so many other events that may not come to pass after your meddling. As you approach your destination, you are blinded by flash of light and close them to keep from going truly blind. When you open them again, you are standing in a forest, just on the outskirts of a small village.
You have no way of knowing for sure where you are, nor at whatever point in history, until you start exploring. All you know for is you can’t be anywhere before 530 AD or after the 9th century, not that that’s particularly helpful. There is a smell of food off in the distance, but in the opposite direction is a river and there is a hurried commotion in that direction. Meanwhile, the sounds of animals past the town are enticing, but so to is the forest with its untouched feel. You have many possibilities to take, and you won’t know where you are unless you look around.
- Head toward the smell of food
- Investigate the river
- Go see what the herdsmen outside the town are doing
- Head into the forest
- Do nothing until someone acknowledges you
