You focus and murmur the incantation. You reach out—
Nothing. The energy fizzles, dissipating like mist. You hear no foreign thoughts in your mind. No hidden desires, no forbidden knowledge. Just silence. You frown, glancing at your hands. Why..?
The Chief Mage watches you with mild amusement. “Trying to cast something, are we?” You hesitate, and a knowing smile curves her lips. “TEL. A fine choice… if only the stars were aligned. The positions of the stars dictate when and where you can use each spell," she explains, a touch of condescension in her voice. So much for reading her thoughts.
She steps closer. “Still,” she muses, tapping a finger to her chin, “I’d be very interested to know what exactly you were hoping to learn from my mind.”
