Take Ryan's experimental formula

From Create Your Own Story

Even if the odds of success are one in a million, it's still better than the alternative, you think. So you say, "I'm ready. Give it to me."

Nina unlocks the door. Keeping you covered with her pistol, she watches closely as Ryan plunges the needle into your upper arm.

You feel nothing at first, then a horrible pain all over your body. You collapse to your hands and knees, vomiting. Then you black out.

When you wake up, you discover yourself locked alone in the quarantine room. You look at your watch, dangling loose on your slender wrist. More than seven hours have passed.

Ryan appears in the window. "The formula kept you human for about four hours. Then you started showing signs of turning. I did the only thing I could do and gave you another injection. It stopped the process...for another four hours. So you'll need another injection in about an hour, and..."

"On and on every four hours, until I die," you finish.

"No," says Ryan with determination. "We're improving the formula day by day. It should last longer and longer until we can find a permanent cure."

"IF you can find a permanent cure."

"Marina." His voice softens. "You saved my life. I won't stop until I find a way to save yours. Now you must be hungry. I'll have the mess hall deliver you some food."

Left alone in the quarantine room, all you can do is hope. But at least you have hope.
