Sneak into the secret room while everyone else is asleep

You feel like you have to get in there. After Father Bennington shows you to a spare bed, you wait until you hear snoring all around you, then slip back into the lab. Approaching the locked door, you reach into your long dark hair and take out a hairpin. Inserting it into the padlock, you rattle it around, maneuvering it, using your years of experience. About twenty seconds later, something clicks and the lock slides open.
You push open the heavy door cautiously. Inside the secret room seems to be a smaller version of the scientist's laboratory in the main room, but in here, most of the space is taken up by rows of vials with a black substance in them, and other vials with various colored powders inside.
Suddenly, your trained ears detect footsteps coming down the hall. You stand up straight in alarm as you prepare to make a quick decision.
