Go across the bridge

No matter. The shack is old and dishevelled, probably empty. Setting your foot upon the bridge, you begin to make your way steadily across.
But you have only gone a few steps when you hear a voice calling from behind you. "Halt, stranger!" You turn to see an ugly hunchbacked creature who has sidled out of the shack door.
"If you wish to pass,
"Two answers must you give to Vancass."
"Who is Vancass?" you reply.
The creature blinks, perhaps in surprise. Then he taps himself on the chest – a bracelet of bone worn on his hand rattling – and tries to straighten up just a little.
