You push yourself quickly to your feet and get running, faster than ever. You run until your lungs are raw, and you don't stop until the river is in sight. You crest the rise, still panting for breath. From here you should be able to pick up the path once more and make faster progress.
As you head down the hillside towards the river bank, you spy movement in the distance. Something is happening at the water's edge. There are three figures, moving around by the water, perhaps fishing. But there is something quite strange about them.
You stop where you are and strain your eyes to look. Figures – women? But they move too fast, flitting across the river-bank like sheet snapping in a breeze. You wait a little longer until you are quite sure. The creatures are floating, and moving through the air. But they seem harmless enough: your guess is that they're fishing.
