As much as you liked these shoes, they aren't worth it. You push your right foot deep in the mud, then pull your foot from its shoe, before climbing into Ron's car barefoot.
He notices your lack of footwear, and comments on your muddy feet. You tell him you lost your shoes pushing the car clear.
"Shit. I'm sorry. I'll buy you some new shoes when we get back to town."
You reply, "It's not your fault. Besides, they were old shoes. I wore them here for a reason."
He nods his understanding.
A few minutes later, you're at the cabin. You wipe the mud off your soles, then hang your raincoat on a coat hook. Ron gets the fire going.
