There seems no obvious danger. You approach along the path until you are close enough for the villagers to notice you.
The effect is immediate. They begin to scurry inside their huts – perhaps your reputation proceeds you. You cannot help but notice what a sorry bunch they are – squat, and short, and all limping strangely. Some use sticks. One is even crawling.
Their bodies are thin and malnourished, and as they disappear through their doors you notice some are missing limbs.
