Draw your pistol and try to take the couple out

You feel like you can't take the risk of negotiating. Making sure the couple can't see you, you draw your pistol, take aim at the man, and pull the trigger.

As her husband falls over dead, the woman begins aiming her rifle at you, but you fire two more shots. She falls over, jerks and spasms, then lies still.

"Are you all right?" you ask Annabelle. She nods, then looks over at the dead bodies. "Did you really have to do that?"

"I couldn't take the risk they would start shooting if I tried to reason with them," you say, but you are not convinced of your own words.

You and Annabelle take the boat out to sea. About ten miles offshore, you are rescued by a Coast Guard cutter and taken to the naval base on San Clemente Island. "We were able to keep the island bases free from zombies," the Coast Guard captain explains. "You'll be safe there."

Although you are physically safe, you spend the rest of your life wracked with guilt over killing two people who were just protecting their property.
