Continue going down the stairs into pitch darkness

The living room is completely overrun with zombies. Your only chance is to go forward, you think.
You feel your way down the stairs, slowly and carefully. When you reach the bottom, you make your way forward into a narrow passage, trailing your hands on the stone walls. The pitch blackness is terrifying. You feel that you could be jumped by a zombie at any second.
Eventually, you feel both walls turn corners. You reach out with your arms. Yes. The path splits here. You look in each direction carefully, trying to see something. Anything.
To the right seems to be the faintest blush of light in the distance, but also the distinctive odor of zombies. The left passage has no zombie smell, but is pitch dark.
- Go right. Zombies or not, you need light
- Go left. Darkness or not, you want to stay away from the zombie smell
