Climb the ladder to the resort roof

Your leather boots clank lightly as you climb the ladder 4 stories up. Good thing you are in shape. The top of the ladder has an inverted spike type contraption meant to keep burlgars and undesirables away, but you use your strength and acrobatic skills to climb out and around it. You grasp the edge of the roof and slowly pull yourself up to survey the scene.
You see one guard decked out in a suit and carrying what looks to be an uzi. Behind him is a door that is propped open and appears to lead down into the resort. You can also see a balcony running around the hotel that you might be able to drop down onto, but you won't be able to get back up easily. You can probably pull yourself up and sneak around the guard, or you can attempt to disable him.
