Ask him to stay for a bit it’s ok

From Create Your Own Story

The kitchen smells faintly of coffee and cinnamon—yours from breakfast, his from the thermos he brought. Sunlight slants across the tiled floor between you as he adjusts the strap of his work bag, ready to leave.

"Stay," you say, leaning against the counter. The words come out softer than you intended. "We could... just hang out for a while. I won’t tell my parents. They’ll think you were pruning hedges all morning."

He pauses, fingers flexing around his belt . His gaze flicks to the clock above the stove, then back to you. "Christ, Jake—I’ve got four more gardens booked today," he mutters, but his eyes linger on your mouth a second too long.

The silence stretches. His throat works.

"I want to," he admits, voice rough. His knuckles brush your wrist—accidental, maybe. "God, I *want* to." The admission hangs between you, thick as the summer heat. Then he exhales sharply, stepping back. "But I’m with someone. And I—" He rakes a hand through his hair. "I should go."

You nod. The rejection doesn’t burn like you expected. Not when his hesitation tastes like honesty, not disinterest. Not when his fingers trembled against your skin.

you sigh as he loads his equipment into the truck, his shoulders tense like a man walking away from something dangerous.
