Leap out into the darkness after all

You find the ogre's attempt at placating you to be unconvincing, so you turn around again, gather up your courage and take a flying leap out into nothing. For a moment, you actually are flying.

Then you're plummeting. The cloak billows up behind you, but as parachutes go, it's rather lacking in effectiveness. As you make your rapid descent, your destination grows clearer. You see a large expanse of rock below, what appears to be an open well of unknown depth, and, oddly enough, a large, cylindrical cactus.
