You make some discreet inquiries and find that you have two choices.
You can take your remaining life savings -- three pounds sterling -- and board a ship to America. You will travel in steerage, pray the ship doesn't hit a storm, and arrive a penniless stranger in a strange land.
Alternatively, you can sign on as a crew member for a certain Captain Hawkins. You do know a bit about how to handle a ship, and the captain doesn't seem too picky about whom he signs on. But it's rumored that the captain is a bit unsavory, and perhaps may be looking to hide out from the law...
