The afterlife is, as inferred, where one goes after their life. Each system features its own afterlife (or it may be sector, who knows), which varies in how it works and what it's like. Several characters have gone to the afterlife, some of which have then returned to the realm of the living. Others still choose to become ghosts, although it's unknown how one goes about this.

Pokemon Afterlife
Pokeworld has a set of seventeen different afterlives, one for every Pokemon type. The ice afterlife was seen in Chapter 8 of Pokemon Platinum 3; it is a vast, snowy wasteland that, to the ice types, isn't a wasteland. It often blizzards there, but doesn't always; the ground is constantly covered in snow, however.
Heaven?/Hell (Sonic)
All that is known about the Mobius afterlife is that Slike F. Elion has apparently gone to the underworld. The underworld has a set up similar to the Christian belief of a hell, and therefore it may be assumed there is a heaven as well. Although not much is known about the ruler of the underworld, it seems to have some favor for Slike...
