Call of Duty (often abbreviated as COD) is a first person shooter/action adventure/MMO video game series franchise based on WWII, the Vietnam War, and WW3. The series began on the PC, and later expanded to consoles and handhelds, and several spin-off games have also been released. The Call of Duty games have primarily been developed by Infinity Ward and TrayArk and published by Activision Blizzard.

Call of Duty was released in 2003 and developed by Infinity Ward. The game was released on the PC, Mac OS X, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the N-Gage.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (also known as COD4, or Modern Warfare) was released in 2007 and developed by Infinity Ward. CoD4 was the first COD game to not be set in World War II.

Call of Duty 5: World @ War

Call of Duty 5: World @ War was released in 2008 and developed by Treyarch. Call of Duty 5: World @ War was a sixty dollar expansion pack for CoD4. The "game" returned to its World War II roots and featured WWII era weapons and maps.

Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2 (also known as MW2, or Modern Warfare® 2) was released in 2009 and developed by Infinity Ward.

Story

CoD6 takes place five years after CoD4. In Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2 you play as a Russian terrorist named Roach. Roach goes undercover in the CIA under the alias of Gary Anderson. Four hours later, all your friends are killed off. The game ends with a fist fight between Roach and a shepherd. The shepherd dies and Roach goes to a safe place with a bar of soap.

Activision Stimulus Package

The first DLC map pack, the "Activision Stimulus Package," was released on Xbox Live on March 30, 2010 and will be released later on PlayStation 3. At a cost of fifteen dollars (1200 MSP), the pack contains three new maps. Within 24 hours of its release, it was downloaded over one million times. Within the first week it had been downloaded 2.5 million times, breaking Xbox Live DLC records.

Call of Duty 7: Black Ops

Call of Duty 7: Black Ops will be released in November 2010, be developed by Treyarch, and set around The Vietnam Conflict.1

Call of Duty 8 will be released in 2011.

The multiplayer in Call of Duty (also known as Call of Duty Online) is one of the main reasons people play Call of Duty.

(Keep in mind COD 4 lacked most of these features.)
