From RULERS: Following a constitutional change (27 Feb 1855) the provinces of New Granada (as Colombia was called until 1861) gained the right to organize themselves as sovereign states, while remaining part of New Granada. With the creation of the Republic of Colombia (5 Aug 1886) the states were transformed into departments under the central government.

  • Works to remodeling the important Medellin Avenue "Calle 10" (10th Street) in the southern El Poblado District will start next January 9.
  • Jamboree hold in Antioquia: In Guatape, a town 3 hours far from Medellin to the East, 1500 boy scouts gathered to celebrate the 150 Anniversary of the birth of Lord Robert Stephenson Smith Baden Powel. The event that is taking place this week, got the visit of Mrs. Patricia Restrepo Montoya, Governor of Antioquia.
  • Two siames baby girls who were born in the Hospital Universitario San Jorge in Pereira, belonging to a family of poor conditions, got the attention of the local newspaper Diaro del Otún. The newspaper opened an account to collect support for this case that moved the heart of the public opinion in the region. Donations to BBVA 34210003293-2. More about this news here.
