=Welcome to '''WikiMACS''', the (un)official [[WMACS]] wiki!=

[[WMACS]] stands for the Washington Metropolitan Association of Chinese Schools. WMACS hosts a week-long residential camp (of the same name) that has been held at [[Frostburg State University]] since 1997 and at other universities since [[1989]]. Kids who attend this camp range from ages 8 to 17. What started out as a volleyball camp has evolved into a Chinese Culture camp where legendary attendees like [[Jeffrey Ian Chen]], [[June Liang]], and [[Kevin Fang]] have touched the hearts of hundreds of camp-goers. If you have taken part in this camp, please feel free to add anything you might remember about camp. This wiki was set up to keep the great memories and moments of camp alive.

 Dan: Why's it gotta be about race, huh? Why not just say she was smart, or pretty, or stupid? Race isn't the only thing that matters.

From [[1989]] through [[1995]] and [[1997]] through [[2005]], Thursday night has traditionally be reserved for '''Skit Night,''' where each group is tasked with writing and performing a skit that summarized their week's experiences. Skits ranged wildly in topic, style, duration, and of course, quality. They often parodied a movie, television show, or otherwise current event, but almost always relied heavily on satirizing other campers and especially the counselors. After all the groups have performed (more than one group combining to perform one skit has occurred), the counselors deliver their skit. The Pushup Game

Requires a deck of cards. As many people can play as want to play. The deck is shuffled and placed somewhere face-down. Players come up in turn and flip over the top card and do as many pushups as there are pips on the card flipped (ace = 1, jack = 11, queen and king -- see below). The type of pushups done is determined by the suit of the card as follows:
* '''Hearts''' - normal pushups
* '''Diamonds''' - hands make a diamond on the ground (with both thumbs and index fingers) directly below center of chest.
* '''Spades''' - hands spread wide (outside the shoulders)
* '''Clubs''' - on knuckles instead of palms (make fists with hands)
Furthermore, there are two card ranks that are special:
* '''Queen''' - flip another card and do twice that many pushups. Multiple queens also stack. e.g. Queen, 4 of Hearts = 8 normal pushups; Queen, Queen, 6 of Clubs = 24 knuckle pushups
* '''King''' - the current player is skipped and the '''next''' player must do 13 pushups of the type specified by the suit.
Play proceeds until the deck of cards is exhausted.

*This game was first introduced to camp by [[Stephen Liang]] in [[2002]], at the end of the first [[Counselor Meeting]] Sunday night following [[Orientation]]. What began as a simple demonstration of the game's rules turned into a marathon session in which [[Jack Chen]], [[Mok-yi Chow]], Stephen Liang, and [[Stan Liu]] finished an entire deck of cards. Their arms all felt fantastic the next morning.
*Later in the week in 2002, this game was also introduced to the campers, which led to quite a few Counselor vs. Camper Pushup Games in the [[2nd Floor Lounge]]. In these games, with so many players, some found it boring to wait around for a turn and find an Ace or Two, requiring only one or two pushups. A new rule was then instituted that an Ace or Two required one-armed pushups.

One cannot even begin to describe [[WMACS]] without describing the exploits of '''Jeffrey Ian Chen''', also known simply as Ian. Ian holds the [[Attendance Records|record]] of 9 consecutive years at camp, from [[1997]] to [[2005]] (the last two years as a counselor). A 2004 graduate of Winston Churchill High School, he currently attends the [http://www.berkeley.edu University of California-Berkeley]. Ian is the cousin of [[Glenda Fu]].

===Camper Years===
As a camper, Ian was one of the vocal, most active, and most mischievous students, but most importantly was a friend to all. Ian was easily one of the most visible campers year after year, due in equal parts to his vocalness on a campwide stage and leadership of younger campers on his team, and also the counselors and staff shouting his name continuously. Thus he was often nominated for or recipient of [[Superlatives|superlatives]] such as [[Loudest]], [[Most Popular]], and [[Most Mischievous]].

Along with his best friends from [[Rockville Chinese School]] [[Kevin Fang]], [[Brett Chung]], and [[Terry Li]], he also cemented friendships with [[Daniel Chen]], [[Barry Huang]], and [[Quentin Tai]] in a bond that would eventually culminate in the formation of [[F4]] in [[2003]]. From [[1999]] on, Ian's counselor was [[Mok-yi Chow]] and was also henceforth in the same group as Barry (and with Dan starting in 2000 and Quentin starting in 2001). Ian teamed up with Barry year after year as the primary writers of their group's skits. Several common themes ran through all these skits, including the necessity for Ian to [[Cross-Dressing|cross-dress]] at least once in each, the singing of a carefully chosen (five minutes before [[Skit Night]]) song during or after the skit, and, in earlier years, the partaking of illicit narcotics (phased out as the campers matured).

In his first year of eligibility, Ian returned to WMACS as a counselor along with fellow [[2004]] high school graduates Barry, [[Tim Yang]], and [[Mayline Wu]]. As loud as ever, Ian however cleaned up his act and instead directed his energy towards encouraging his campers, cheering on his team, and assisting during [[Traditional Dance]]. In a twist of fate, Ian lost his voice by the end of the second day, as he now finally knew how difficult it must have been for the counselors to keep track of him as a camper.

Ian possesses an enormously large and dangerously square (as in the corners are sharp enough to critically wound someone) chin. The chin peaked in squareness during his high school years and has since begun to round out.
