Bu guai

Junage:

Bu Guai is the pin yin of two Chinese words that describe someone (usually a child) as a misbehaver. Guai by itself means behaved and Bu is the negation of that. Typical/correct use would look like this:

"Ta Bu Guai."

which means - He/She is not well behaved.

At camp, this adjective has been turned into a noun or - to be more specific - a camper that has misbehaved by not listening to the teachers, staff, or counselors when they were told to do something. Originally coined by [[Su-Cha Kang]].

This occurred back in 2002, when in dance class with the youngest children, Su-Cha was very frustrated because they were not listening to the teacher or her and were all running around. At the end of her wits, the only thing she could yell was, "You are all so bu guai!" Fellow counselors [[Stephen Liang]] and [[Alex Cheng]] found this to be hysterical and couldn't stop laughing.

Every year there are a few songs that are heard and remembered a little more than the rest. These songs are usually very catchy and allow most, if not all, campers to enjoy them very much. These songs can ascended to Camp Songdomcy through a variety of methods, from being the music to [[Modern Dance]], to being an inside joke, to being performed for [[Skit Night|skit night]], to being the last song at [[End-of-Week Party|the dance]].

After achieving popularity, these songs are sung during/between classes, on the way to afternoon/night activities, in the [[2nd Floor Loung|lounge]], for the [[Talent Show|talent show]], and indeed, year after year.

'''June Liang''' has had a long and illustrious history with [[WMACS|WMACS Camp]], dating all the way back to [[1990]], when she first attended [[WMACS]] as a [[:Category:Campers|camper]]. Back then it was known as ACS for Association of Chinese Schools. The switch to [[WMACS]] didn't occur until [[1993]]. June graduated from the [[University of Virginia]] in [[2000]]; her younger brother [[Stephen Liang|Stephen]] is a five-time counselor and also graduated from UVA, in [[2002]].

She would write a long saga about the history of [[WMACS]] and how it has changed and evolved and had its ups and downs but she's tired and needs to go to work early tomorrow. So she's just going to do lists. However, some of the listed things might have content, if you choose to go look. She remembers a ''lot'' of stuff about [[WMACS]].

She looks forward to the day when she officially becomes a Great-Grand [[:Category:Counselors|Counselor]]. Her Grand [[:Category:Counselors|Counselor]]hood officially occurred in [[2001]] when her [[:Category:Campers|camper]] [[Anita Cheng]] from [[1998]] and [[1999]] became a [[:Category:Counselors|counselor]]. [[WMACS]] moved to Salisbury State University in 1991. This was also the first year of the bus ride experience. In previous years, parents would simply drop their kids off at the college. However, being 2 hours away from the metro DC area, Salisbury would be a little more inconvenient. So the bus trip was set up where everyone (campers, counselors, teachers, staff) would caravan to the university.

The camp director for 1991 is the famous Lo Ah-yi a.k.a. [[Joanne Sham]], also the mother of [[Joe Sham]] and [[Kin-Ling Sham]] and aunt of [[Jessica Liu]] and [[Jeffrey Liu]]. She is awesome-personified. She could probably be considered the most [[:Category:Counselors|counselor-like]] [[:Category:Staff|staff member]] ever. She okayed our dance parties every night during [[Midnight Snacks]] and would participate in [[Games Night|game night]] games. But she would also enforce discipline like no other if campers misbehaved.

'''Anthony Hwang,''' a.k.a "Puffy," has been around since 1991, so he's like 15. He's a rising sophmore at [[Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology]] (WHAT A NERD!!!!) Anyways, Anthony has attended WMACS from [[2001]] to [[2006]] but sadly skipped [[2005]] due to summer school.

ANTHONY AND THE TRAVELING PANTS!!! Stories from WMACS [[2006]]:

1. A very sad story: Anthony's poor poor poor blue Reebok shorts... three guys, [[Albert Chu]], [[Wesley Chin|Wes Chin]], and [[Jayon Wang]], decided to all wear the shorts at the same time. So, Albert put the shorts on, Wes took one leg hole, and Jayon took the other. The result: a piar of ripped shorts being worn by 3 guys. And boy did they have quite the time in Anthony's pants (if you know what I mean *wink*)

2. The [[G3 of 2006|G3]] girls also had quite a time in Anthony's pants. Now, now, don't you be thinking pevertedly you dirty-minded freak. They simply borrowed Anthony's shorts for their amazing talent show performance, a dance to Missy Elliot's "Lose Control". They looked mighty GANGSTA with Anthony's overly large shorts on! And when Anthony got the shorts back they were sprayed with [[Emily Tong]]'s perfume stuff, VANILLA SCENTED!! IT SMELLED AWESOME! Several B5 boys were getting high off of the scent, yes, it was THAT good.

Anthony hopes to continue attending WMACS until he is too old to be a camper. He also hopes to become a counselor one day at WMACS because he loves camp THAT MUCH!!! <3333333333333333333333333333

Basketball Tournament

The Basketball tournament has been a staple of camp since the beginning in [[1989]]. While not contested every year, depending on time and space availability and interest from the campers, it is still a WMACS tradition. Unlike the [[Volleyball Tournament]], where each team plays, the teams are made by the counselors, consisting of the campers who signed up, balancing the teams as much as they can. The campers not playing would either watch or go [[Swimming]]. Every team plays every other team in round robin, and after that, the teams are placed in a seeded single elimination lineup. After the finals, like volleyball, there is an All-Stars vs Counselors match. The counselors give the campers a handicap and let the campers have 6 players opposed to 5 counselors.

[[WMACS]] stands for the Washington Metropolitan Association of Chinese Schools. WMACS hosts a week-long residential camp (of the same name) that has been held at [[Frostburg State University]] since 1997 and at other universities since [[1989]]. Kids who attend this camp range from ages 8 to 17. What started out as a volleyball camp has evolved into a Chinese Culture camp where legendary attendees like [[Jeffrey Ian Chen]], [[June Liang]], and [[Kevin Fang]] have touched the hearts of hundreds of camp-goers. If you have taken part in this camp, please feel free to add anything you might remember about camp. This wiki was set up to keep the great memories and moments of camp alive.

'''1999''' saw a move to the current dorm, [[Cambridge Hall]] and the start of the most successful grouping scheme to date, with Gs and Bs indicating gender and numbers indicating age.

 This was also the first year of the Counselor Act at [[Skit Night]]. Due to the success of the guy counselors' act in [[1998]], all of the [[counselors]] wanted to put something together. During Thursday's dinner and free time, the counselors quickly put together a short song-and-dance number that pitted the girl and boy counselors against each other. First the guys came out each with their own ridiculous move to try and impress the girl counselors. No impressing was done, just much laughter. The showing off ended with the guy counselors singing along to "Duai Mien de Nu Hai Kan Guo Lai" (Girl Across From Me, Look Over Here). The girl counselors came along and did a short dance to "Wo Shi Nu Sheng" (I am a Girl). The guys came back on to sing "Baby I'm So Sorry" by Alex To to woo the girls and finish the skit.
(We got better at skits over time.)

[[WMACS]] moved to Salisbury State University in 1991. This was also the first year of the bus ride experience. In previous years, parents would simply drop their kids off at the college. However, being 2 hours away from the metro DC area, Salisbury would be a little more inconvenient. So the bus trip was set up where everyone (campers, counselors, teachers, staff) would caravan to the university.

The camp director for 1991 is the famous Lo Ah-yi a.k.a. [[Joanne Sham]], also the mother of [[Joe Sham]] and [[Kin-ling Sham]] and aunt of [[Jessica Liu]] and [[Jeffrey Liu]]. She is awesome-personified. She could probably be considered the most [[:Category:Counselors|counselor-like]] [[:Category:Staff|staff member]] ever. She okayed our dance parties every night during [[Midnight Snacks]] and would participate in [[Games Night|game night]] games. But she would also enforce discipline like no other if campers misbehaved.
