[[WMACS]] stands for the Washington Metropolitan Association of Chinese Schools. WMACS hosts a week-long residential camp (of the same name) that has been held at [[Frostburg State University]] since 1997 and at other universities since [[1989]]. Kids who attend this camp range from ages 8 to 17. What started out as a volleyball camp has evolved into a Chinese Culture camp where legendary attendees like [[Jeffrey Ian Chen]], [[June Liang]], and [[Kevin Fang]] have touched the hearts of hundreds of camp-goers. If you have taken part in this camp, please feel free to add anything you might remember about camp. This wiki was set up to keep the great memories and moments of camp alive.

'''Barry Huang''' graduated from [[Centennial High School]] in 2004 and from the [[University of Pennsylvania]] in May 2008. Barry is a 9-year [[WMACS]]er: a [[:Category:Campers|camper]] from [[1999]] to [[2003]] and a [[:Category:Counselors|counselor]] in [[2004]], [[2006]], and [[2007]]. He served as [[Head Counselor]] in 2008 alongside [[Liz Hum]] and [[Quentin Tai]]. His younger brother is [[Sean Huang]]. They both attended the [[Chinese Language School of Columbia]] (CLSC).

===Camper Years===
Surely establishing a precendent of some sort, Barry's counselor during all 5 years of camperhood was [[Mok-yi Chow]]; these coincided with Mok-yi's first 5 years as counselor, and he would continue on as counselor for just one more year after his long-time campers graduated from high school. In [[2004]], Mok-yi was a counselor alongside his 5-year campers Barry and Ian Chen, a frightening proposition. Over his 5 years at camp, he became inseparable with several returning campers; this culminated in the formation of the entity [[F4]] in [[2003]], composed of the four long-time campers Barry, [[Jeffrey Ian Chen]], [[Daniel Chen]], and [[Quentin Tai]] in Group F.

Barry, like his former camper [[George Peng]], is an avid drummer and performed with the group [[Forever Young]] for a number of years. He also won the superlative, [[Most Musical]], in [[2001]] for playing the drums during his B6 skit, and was again nominated in [[2002]]. The audience was apparently captivated by the concept of an Asian drummer, because Barry really isn't all that good.

Barry also greatly enjoyed helping to put together the WMACS [[Yearbook]], which has since evolved into an electronic CD. He was especially involved in [[2000]], [[2001]], and [[2002]].

===Barry as a Counselor===
WMACS had such an impact on Barry (to this day, he still owes a significant portion of the development of his social skills and characteristics to the camp) that he even wrote about it as the topic of several of his college essays. After graduating from high school, Barry eagerly returned to camp as a counselor in [[2004]], his first year of eligibility. As a junior counselor, Barry led the "[[Dog]]" group, the second-youngest group of campers.

Barry was unable to attend WMACS in [[2005]] due to summer courses, but he returned in [[2006]]. His WMACS career came full circle as he took on the group B4, the very age group that he had been in his first year of camp. Also, in a revival of "[[Counselor Switch Day]]", he "adopted" the group [[G3 of 2007|G3]], which quickly became his favorite adopted group ever and which he now fondly looks after as his little sisters, or daughters, or whatever.

In [[2007]], Barry returned as a third-year counselor and again led group B4, watching over such returning campers as [[Brian Sun]] and [[Kevin Yao]]. [[Calvin Yu]] served as Barry's [[counselor-in-training]] (CIT).

In [[2008]], Barry served as a [[head counselor]] for the first time. Due to low camper enrollment and budget constraints, Barry also took on a group, [[B4 of 2008|B4]], who proved to be his most mischievous yet entertaining group yet.

During his camper years and even as a counselor, Barry was particularly proud of consistently taking an integral role, usually with fellow group member [[Jeffrey Ian Chen|Ian Chen]], in skit-planning. [[Skit Night|Skits]] he has been involved with over the years include:

Every year there are a few songs that are heard and remembered a little more than the rest. These songs are usually very catchy and allow most, if not all, campers to enjoy them very much. These songs can ascend to Camp Songdomcy through a variety of methods, from being the music to [[Modern Dance]], to being an inside joke, to being performed for [[Skit Night|skit night]], to being the last song at [[End-of-Week Party|the dance]].

After achieving popularity, these songs are sung during/between classes, on the way to afternoon/night activities, in the [[2nd Floor Loung|lounge]], for the [[Talent Show|talent show]], and indeed, year after year.

===Camper Years===
Surely establishing a precendent of some sort, Barry's counselor during all 5 years of camperhood was [[Mok-yi Chow]]; these coincided with Mok-yi's first 5 years as counselor, and he would continue on as counselor for just one more year after his long-time campers graduated from high school. In [[2004]], Mok-yi was a counselor alongside his 5-year campers Barry and Ian Chen, a frightening proposition. Over his 5 years at camp, he became inseparable with several returning campers; this culminated in the formation of the entity [[F4]] in [[2003]], composed of the four long-time campers Barry, [[Jeffrey Ian Chen]], [[Daniel Chen]], and [[Quentin Tai]] in Group F.

Barry, like his former camper [[George Peng]], is an avid drummer and performed with the group [[Forever Young]] for a number of years. He also won the superlative, [[Most Musical]], in [[2001]] for playing the drums during his B6 skit, and was again nominated in [[2002]]. The audience was apparently captivated by the concept of an Asian drummer, because Barry really isn't all that good.

Barry also greatly enjoyed helping to put together the WMACS [[Yearbook]], which has since evolved into an electronic CD. He was especially involved in [[2000]], [[2001]], and [[2002]].

===Barry as a Counselor===
WMACS had such an impact on Barry (to this day, he still owes a significant portion of the development of his social skills and characteristics to the camp) that he even wrote about it as the topic of several of his college essays. After graduating from high school, Barry eagerly returned to camp as a counselor in [[2004]], his first year of eligibility. As a junior counselor, Barry led the "[[Dog]]" group, the second-youngest group of campers.

Barry was unable to attend WMACS in [[2005]] due to summer courses, but he returned in [[2006]]. His WMACS career came full circle as he took on the group B4, the very age group that he had been in his first year of camp. Also, in a revival of "[[Counselor Switch Day]]", he "adopted" the group G3, which quickly became his favorite adopted group ever and which he now fondly looks after as his little sisters, or daughters, or whatever.

In [[2007]], Barry returned as a third-year counselor and again led group B4, watching over such returning campers as [[Brian Sun]] and [[Kevin Yao]]. [[Calvin Yu]] served as Barry's [[counselor-in-training]] (CIT).

WMACS hosts a week-long residential camp (of the same name) that has been held at [[Frostburg State University]] since 1997 and at other universities since [[1989]]. Commonly known as LJ (Little Jessica, paired with [[Jessica Chau]], BJ), Jessica currently attends Stone Bridge High School in Loudoun County. Yeah, it's in the middle of nowhere, but according to Jessica, it is "the beastest thing EVER." Despite being such a long distance from everyone else, she maintains contact with WMACSers via AIM or phone and visits Maryland every so often.

Outside of WMACS, Jessica Chen is only a speck of the vast populace, but within WMACS, she's a celebrity whom everyone knows. Now as a counselor, Brett has toned down his Bu Guai-ness and has become a positive role model for budding young adolescent boys who are eager to learn the art of Macking, mastered by none other than Brett Lin Chung aka. Only recently opened in Fall of [[2005]], '''Marriott's Ridge High School''' in Ellicott City, MD is where most of Howard County's redistricted students from other high schools went due to overcrowding. In its opening year, there were only Freshmen (class of '09) and Sophomores (class of '08). This meant the class of '08 for the school would be permanent seniors until the end of their high school career. Lucky them.

 Some students say that their teachers are horrible, sleeping in their own class, and not being able to teach, even after June. The good thing is, all the technology is very advanced, with wireless computers, TVs, etc.

Ian was easily one of the most visible campers year after year, due in equal parts to his vocalness on a campwide stage and leadership of younger campers on his team, and also the counselors and staff shouting his name continuously. Thus he was often nominated for or recipient of [[Superlatives|superlatives]] such as [[Loudest]], [[Most Popular]], and [[Most Mischievous]].

Along with his best friends from [[Rockville Chinese School]] [[Kevin Fang]], [[Brett Chung]], and [[Terry Li]], he also cemented friendships with [[Daniel Chen]], [[Barry Huang]], and [[Quentin Tai]] in a bond that would eventually culminate in the formation of [[F4]] in [[2003]]. From [[1999]] on, Ian's counselor was [[Mok-yi Chow]] and was also henceforth in the same group as Barry (and with Dan starting in 2000 and Quentin starting in 2001). Ian teamed up with Barry year after year as the primary writers of their group's skits. Several common themes ran through all these skits, including the necessity for Ian to [[Cross-Dressing|cross-dress]] at least once in each, the singing of a carefully chosen (five minutes before [[Skit Night]]) song during or after the skit, and, in earlier years, the partaking of illicit narcotics (phased out as the campers matured).

In [[2002]] after the [[End-of-Week Party|dance]], the oldest campers (Groups A, B, E, and F) attempted to have a co-ed sleepover in the [[2nd Floor Lounge]]. Their excuse to the staff was that they wanted to stay up to watch the '''sunrise''', though the Lounge is not even close to facing East. [[Bien Mama]] relented, under the provision that at least one counselor stay up with them and that they return to their rooms after the supposed "sunrise." [[June Liang]] volunteered to stay up, and naturally, everyone had fallen asleep when Bien Mama came around at 6am and she shooed them back to their rooms.

Barry is a 7-year [[WMACS]]er: a [[:Category:Campers|camper]] from [[1999]] to [[2003]] and a [[:Category:Counselors|counselor]] in [[2004]] and [[2006]]. His younger brother is [[Sean Huang]]. ===Camper Years===
Surely establishing a precendent of some sort, Barry's counselor during all 5 years of camperhood was [[Mok-yi Chow]]. Over his 5 years at camp, he became inseparable with several returning campers; this culminated in the formation of the entity [[F4]] in 2003, composed of the four long-time campers Barry, [[Jeffrey Ian Chen]], [[Daniel Chen]], and [[Quentin Tai]] in Group F.

Barry, like his former camper [[George Peng]], is an avid drummer and performed with the group [[Forever Young]] for a number of years. He also won the superlative, [[Most Musical]], in [[2001]] for playing the drums during his B6 skit, and was again nominated in [[2002]]. The audience was apparently captivated by the concept of an Asian drummer, because Barry really isn't all that good.

Barry also greatly enjoyed helping to put together the WMACS [[Yearbook]], which has since evolved into an electronic CD. He was especially involved in [[2000]], [[2001]], and [[2002]].

===Barry as a Counselor===
WMACS had such an impact on Barry (to this day, he still owes a significant portion of the development of his social skills and characteristics to the camp) that he even wrote about it as the topic of several of his college essays. After graduting from high school, Barry eagerly returned to camp as a counselor in [[2004]], his first year of eligibility. As a junior counselor, Barry led the "[[Dog]]" group, the second-youngest group of campers.

Barry was unable to attend WMACS in [[2005]] due to summer courses, but he returned in [[2006]]. His WMACS career came full circle as he took on the group B4, the very age group that he had been in his first year of camp. Also, in a revival of "[[Counselor Switch Day]]", he "adopted" the group G3, which quickly became his favorite adopted group ever and which he now fondly looks after as his little sisters, or daughters, or whatever.
