A Character Reaction Trope where a character puts his/her Hands On Hips. This can happen for several reasons, but usually out of frustration. It can sometimes count as a Beat. When it's on another's hips, it's Hands On Approach.

Examples
  • In the Star Trek: Voyager episode 'Macrocosm' Captain Janeway's habit of putting her hands on her hips turns out to be the 'worst insult imaginable' in the Tak Tak language, causing her and Neelix to narrowly escape execution. Shortly afterward she vows never to put her hands on her hips again. A few seconds later, she unconsciously does it again.
  • In Final Fantasy IX, Conde Petit, this exchange:
Zidane: We know, Eiko. But if you feel like crying, just cry.
Eiko: I'm gonna go pray to my grandparents! I'll be right back. (Eiko leaves)
Zidane: If you need to, you can cry, too, Garnet. My shoulder's always available.
Garnet: Yeah, thanks. What about you, Zidane? What do you do when you need to cry?
Zidane: (poses as if to glomp her again) Oh, I get real clingy when I'm sad!
Garnet: (puts her hands on her hips) Cut it out!
    Zidane: Hey, I was serious.
