The Flamethrower has appeared in both TimeSplitters 2 and TimeSplitters Future Perfect. It shoots out a stream of flames that will ignite anyone who crosses its range.
In TimeSplitters 2, a character on fire can put out the fire if exposed to water or rain, or if the Fire Extinguisher is used on them. If none of these is available, the character will slowly lose their health until they die. Life can be temporarily prolonged by picking up Health Packs, but it will only prolong the inevitable.
In TimeSplitters Future Perfect, water can still be used to put out the fire. If you wait long enough though, the flame will eventually die out by itself. This greatly decreases the Flamethrower's effectiveness as a "one-hit kill weapon."
The Flamethrower looks pretty much the same in both games. It uses Petrol as ammunition. Ammo is displayed in a bar that slowly depletes as you use up your Petrol, similar to the ElectroTool.
In Story mode it is effective due to automatically killing enemies quickly, especially when their health is low.
In TimeSplitters 2, one good tactic in the Aztec level with only bots is to stand in the pond and shoot everyone that goes past (as long as flamethrowers are the only weapon), as the bots never seem to run in the pond, therefore always dying.
