Cravat is a British term for a type of necktie (also known as an ascot) and the cravat is the ancestor of the modern necktie. The item originated among Croatian mercenaries serving France during the 17th century and the name is a corruption of the word Hrvat or Croat. It started out as a toughguy Balkanoid thing but the French warped it so bad that now only the most flamingest of the flaming fags wear a cravat.
