Alaric

Admin:

Alaric's origins are unknown. There are those that say he is the Cybertronian Green Lantern, but far more likely he is just a stupid boy from Stockton. That's Stockton-on-Tees, UK by the way. Don't mistake it for Stockton in California. No one has ever done this yet, but there's a first time for everything.

It is the consideration of a few that this Alaric fellow is rather funny. His work has been described as being "in a fine line between Monty Python and The Goodies", which is pretty damn flattering. It is true that he has written a fair number of stories in the Parodies thread, as well as the humorous Independant Work Nerds, and that J. Alaric Productions specialises in comedic redubs and audio productions. However, he has also shown he has a serious side in the SiFiction story known as Rogue.

Is notoriously bad with deadlines.

All Alaric really wants in life is to entertain others. Whether he ever succeeds in doing so is up to you to judge. Oh yeah, he's also responsible for this wiki, so watch what you say about him.

Recently got married to Chris Burrell. An anullment seems likely at some point.

Voices
Alaric would appreciate it if you read everything he says in the voice of Batman. But not just one Batman. If he's saying something funny, you should imagine Adam West saying it. If it's serious, then Kevin Conroy's your (Bat)man. If it sounds cool, then it's Michael Keaton. And if it's angry, then go ahead and pretend Christian Bale's saying it.

Real life
In real life, Alaric is Ross Martyn Hayes, mild mannered student with a heart of gold. It's a good thing the internet is anonymous, or else he wouldn't say half the amount of things he does. Ross is currently single, but his low self-esteem will get him through. That and Don Rosa's The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. You should read it. It's good.

Notes
* Slots 95-99 are yet to be filled as after the Hyperboards incarnation of Sodor Island Forums crashed, the ERS underwent a reshuffle and volumes deemed of not sufficient standard to stay in the library were removed. As new volumes are accepted into the library, these slots will be filled, and counting will resume from 103 onwards.
* Volumes 100 and 101 were the result of a 'War Of Words', with teams comprising four members writing a volume to compete for the honoured slot of 100. Another volume from this contest was The Fat Controller's Dilemma, which eventually took the spot of Volume 99.
* Fan-made characters introduced in these ERS books include Evan, Edwin Richard, Sodor Castle, Brad, Lucky, Eagle, Hunter, Roger, Scott, Quinten, Alex, Mary, Kaiser, Warrior, Norman, Betty, Coco, Artimis, Renee, Dennis, Rod, Susan, Hero, Stephen, Peckett, 0794, Marvin, Coral, Henry 2, Tina, and Two-Cab.
Rogue

Admin: Page started

Possibly the first serious SiFiction, certainly one of the darker ones, Rogue is the first in the R Trilogy. It tells the story of a failed revolution instigated by Alaric. The story was told in 11 chapters, a prologue and epilogue, and ran from 20/5/06 to 15/8/06. It was in this work that the word 'SiFiction' first popped up. It was then repeated again and again until it was adapted into the forum vocabulary.

<h2>Story</h2>
<b><i>Warning-Spoilers Ahead</i></b>

The story is told in flashback through the first person perspective of Alaric. It begins with a prologue covering the trial of Alaric for instigating a rebellion against SiF officials, which causes him to look back over the events of the last few days as he awaits his punishment.

Suffering a bout of insanity and paranoia caused by a brain abnormality, Alaric begins to question the running of SiF by the current administration. After hearing what he believes to be SiF Admin Ryan's real thoughts about the forumers, he takes it upon himself to overthrow the Establishment and install a fairer system of government. He first seeks help from JimBobDunnie, who tells Alaric that his plan is dangerous and that he is not acting like himself.

Failing to attract members through legitimate channels, Alaric deems it necessary to use harsher methods. Abducting five forumers (ATKtrains, Bobwinkle007, BoCodiseasel, GotSTEAM and Nanaki) off the streets, he sets up a faux Awards Ceremony to gather the majority of members into one place. During the opening ceremonies he reveals his plan, and forces them into co-operating under threat of death, claiming the hors d'ourves were filled with explosives that could be set off at any time. After marching them to SiF Tower, Alaric finds the mods and admins have already learnt of the plan thanks to Jimbobdunnie.

Alaric, shocked by what he sees as a betrayal by his best friend, suffers a breakdown that allows the abductees to get the jump on him. Bob accidentally knocks the explosive remote out of Alaric's hand and onto the floor, button side up. This gives Alaric a chance to catch Ryan by surprise, holding him hostage at knifepoint. He explains that the threat was false and that no one was ever in any danger. Ryan, while trying to convince Alaric to surrender, manages to knock him unconscious using his stun gun.

After recapping the events, Alaric is tormented by images of the Establishment coming to take their revenge on him in his cell. An epilogue shows Ryan's reaction to the events and details the moving of Alaric to an insane asylum.

<b><i>Spoilers end here</i></b>

<h2>Behind the Scenes</h2>
'Rogue' was Alaric's first attempt at a serious story on the SiF, trying to prove that he was capable of more than comedy work. The story was also an experiment in trying to open up the boundaries of SiFiction, showing that it could work for drama as well as comedy. Given the result though, it might have been best to stick to the parodies.

The story itself was deeply flawed, reasons including that it was too short and could have included more as to why Alaric thought his revolution was necessary, as well as a limited understanding of insanity (a brain abnormality? What was I thinking?). It was also rather slow-paced, and updates were sporadic and often far-between.

However this did not prevent it from gaining a modest fan-following, enough to inspire Alaric to write a sequel in Renegade. It'd be great to say it got a cult following, but it didn't, so that would be a lie.

In all, it was a good thing to write and some people like reading it. And that's probably for the best.

<h2>Controversey</h2>
What controversey?

Power Rangers: Pencil Force

Admin:

Power Rangers: Pencil force is an SiFiction written by Truro. Parodying the long running Power Rangers saga, Pencil Force follows five lesser known SiF members fighting badly thought up monsters created by 'The Master' in the fictional city of Shining Hills. There is a secret guarded at the city's art gallery, that the master is desperate to get his claws on, and its down to the Rangers to stop him, and while they're at it, perhaps find out what that secret is.
Power Rangers Pencil Force has recieved high praise from many SiF members. The only negative comment ever made about it was one member who said it wasn't good, simply because he wasn't in it. It is the first SiFiction to make people other than the cast of Quest for the missing Christmas Presents the main focus, making the characters fresh and original. Its use of fast paced action, and occasional fourth wall style of humour have made it an instant hit.

Rangers
Truro (Red Ranger) - Portrayed as snobbish, big headed, and slightly eccentric. Has a nasty temper, and curses a lot. Deep down (REALLY deep down) he does care for his team mates, and is determined to prove himself a leader in their eyes. He enjoys fencing, in real life, and this was played on in the stories, via his weapon; the Shining Foil.

Dan the countdowner (Blue Ranger)- The groups' Joker. Loyal. His weapon is the Sonic Screwdriver. He was the first ranger to use the sword of light. His finisher being 'Final Countdown'.

Chris Burrell (Green Ranger)- The Cool guy

GotSTEAM (Yellow Ranger)- Daydreams. Scared of large crowds, but okay in small groups

RustyFanatic05 (Pink Ranger)- Kind hearted, flirtatious and likes singing.

Sixth Ranger- The Mysterious new hero, who we've yet to introduce!

Baddies
*The Master- A dragon man with a nasty temper and slightly immature disposition.

*Kitsune IV- A Fox Man. He is a great ninja and a master thief.

*Pervy- A perverted little internet stalker.

Zords
*Jubilee Zord (Red)- A Steam Engine zord based on the Jubilee class locomotive 'Leander'. Its attack, 'Furnace Blast' is a flame thrower concealed in the turret like funnel. The zord's other attack 'Destruction Fire' Sucks the monster through the smoke box, into the firebox and burns them to ashes. Also forms the arms of the Megazord

*Tardis Zord (Blue)- Based upon the Dr Who Tardis. This hovering phone booth generates electrical sparks from the aerial on its roof, and blasts monsters with it. Forms the Legs and groin area of the Megazord.

*Gamecube Zord (Green)- A lime green version of the Nintendo gamecube. Can hover, and fire green laser disks. Forms the Megazord's Torso section

*Midlander Zord (Pink) This White and Pink Diesel zord is based on the Tayllylln railways Midlander diesel, which was written into the railway Series as Rusty. Its attack 'Pink Shine Laser' is a phased beam of powerful pink light. Becomes the head of the Megazord

*Sparrow Zord (Yellow)- What you might call, a smaller and less powerful version of the Original White Ranger's Falcon Zord. Has the missile based weapons for its attack 'Sparrow Storm'. Joins with the megazord as the Wings and rocket pack.

Influences
*The idea first came over MSN conversations between Truro, Chris Burrell, and Rustyfanatic05. On deviantart, someone kept slagging SiF off, because he had been banned, for his immaturity, and all his friends gave him sympathy, also slagging us off. Truro decided that if he did it again, then they should comment on his DA journal, exposing the REAL reason he was banned, and give him a right verbal thrashing. "And we'll call ourselves, Fan Art Rangers!" said Truro in jest, but also mulling the idea over in his head, "This could be the basis for a good SiFiction!" Assigning Carly as Pink Ranger, and Chris as Green, Truro went on to recruit a blue ranger and yellow ranger, and then got to work on what he hoped would be a successful comedy romp.

*Most of the 'episodes' in the Pencil force series are based on events that have taken place on SiF in the past. Chapter 3 for example is based on all the hype about a certain member planning to take over the Thomas franchise and turn it into an anime.

*Despite rumours of who Kitsune IV is supposed to be, he's not really based on anyone from SiF. For his role, I needed to create a character who could be a master thief. The idea actually stems from the anime character Lupin III.

*The Jubilee Zord takes a bit of heed from Mystic Force's Solar Streak Megazord. It uses both forms of Furnace blast, but with different names. Destruction fire was the name of both attacks in the Japanese version 'Mahou Sentai Magiranger'

Power Rangers: Pencil Force

Admin: Spelling and Grammar

Alaric

It is true that he has written a fair number of stories in the Parodies thread, as well as the humorous Independant Work Nerds, and that J. Alaric Productions specialises in comedic redubs and audio productions. However, he has also shown he has a serious side in the SiFiction story known as Rogue.

All Alaric really wants in life is to entertain others. Whether he ever succeeds in doing so is up to you to judge. Oh yeah, he's also responsible for this wiki, so watch what you say about him.

It's good.

JimBob's Mob

Admin: Removed redundant member links

JimBob's Mob is the studio of SiFer *JimBobDunnie. So far its has two redubs under its belt, those being Double Teething Troubles and Bulgy Rides Again with two projects lined up, all from what started as a one off production.

The Beggining
Inspired by Skarloey's Tidmouth Sheds Studios productions of Buggered, a then n00bish JimBobDunnie set out to make his scene on the production world. Unsure of wether to be a one off or to continue, he wrote the script which was to be his first ever production, a audio of the famous RWS, Duke the Lost Engine. The cast was high in talent, but unfortunatly due to an accident, the lines were deleted and there has been no word from JimBob if he wishes to bring out the audio or not.

The Redubs
Double Teething Troubles-The first ever production of the Mob Studios, it consisted of a great cast (Skarloey, Ryan, Alaric, Chris, Kate669, Jarrah White, *The Old Bean and JimBob himself)with an un-experienced man behind it all. However, positives were drawn and the redub turned out to be "A sucess for first attempt, but room for improvement". It also appeared on the *Sodor Island Faniste.

Bulgy Rides Again-The roller coaster redub, on the verge of the 'success' of DTT, JimBob set to work on his next piece of work. With a cast of Ryan, Skarloey, Alaric, Chris, Truro, Chris the Xelent and Road Roller, a decent redub was expected. A long wait was then followed, due to Skarloey being tied down by school work and his offline life. It didn't help that when JimBob did recieve them, he deleted the rest in a accident (which was also the same one that saw Granpuff's dimense). Luckily, the cast was on hand to get the lines in and the production began. Another lengthy wait followed, until June 21st when Bulgy Rides Again was finally released. It was, however, a major flop and even JimBob admitted it. A short while after, JimBob re-redubbed BRA (Being the 3rd to do it) and it began a major success with the members.

Upcoming Productions
Stepney Gets Lost-Redub

Sir Topham Hatts Grand Holiday-Feature Length Dub

The Runaway-Joint Production Redub

Lusitania, The Dreaded Day-Joint Production Audio

Doctor Who-TBA

Steam Rally Studios

Admin: Removed redundant member links

Created By Road Roller in late 2005, the Studio's original name was ScrapYard Studios, but when the second redub project went into consideration, it was renamed to what it is today. The Studio has so far only had one Redub Released, being Saved From Scrap. Starring a Small Voice-over Cast featuring Chris, Alaric and Ryan and more.

The short history starts, when Bono first joined SiF under the guise of Dolgoch, his first username. After a while, Dolgoch befriended Skarloey, who had joined a couple of weeks before. When Dolgoch laid eyes on Sodor Studios' Cranky Bugs, he was inspired and wanted to make one of his own. Since Dolgoch at the time was no script writer, he proposed the idea to Skarloey, who agreed to become partners and to write the script. The Episode chosen was Four Little Engines, starring Kate669 as Edward, and Skarloey playing his Engine counterpart. The Movie, in terms of now, was a Big Flop. Although everyone said it was good, Dolgoch could see he needed to learn more about Windows Movie Maker, so he left the redubbing business for then, even though it was announced a Second Dub, Peter Sam and the Refreshment Lady. Which never came to being.

The Old Studio, which was named Skarloey Studios, soon started to collect dust at the back of the Multimedia section of the old SiF. Sooon the next year however, the now re-named Road Roller decided to take another shot, after practising with Windows Movie Maker. Since Road Roller had a keen intrest in Steam Road Going Traction Engines, he chose Saved From Scrap. He wrote the script himself, and after confiding in SiF Moderater Ryan, to look it over and see if anything could be improved. Ryan gave it a thumbs up, and the Project was announced. Starring Chris as Trevor, Alaric as Edward and Ryan as the Vicor. The Redub Finished off with a Touching Music Video, in Memory of the Traction Engines that did not make it into Preservation.

With the Success of Saved from Scrap, Road Roller decided to do the Next Trevor story, Thomas and Trevor. Featuring real footage of Traction Engines on the Rally Field, recorded by Road Roller himself. But since it was the middle of winter, he would have to wait untill the Rally Season in summer, which is what he did. After Hyperboards failed and the all New SiF came into light. Sodor Studios began toying with the idea of combining two episodes to make feature lengths, such as the recently released The Adventures of Fergus by Flying Kipper Studios. Road Roller liked the idea, so he decided to combine Thomas and Trevor with Edward, Trevor and the Really Useful Party, which would be entitled Trevor the Traction Engine, which is still in production, awaiting lines. There of course may be future projects as well, which may not feature Thomas at all, see below for Future Ideas and projects.

Upcoming Projects and Releases
*Three Railway Engines Saga - Rough Planning

Admin: Page started

What can we say about J. Alaric Productions that has not already been said? Well, quite a bit, as nothing has been said about it so far. Let us rectify that situation.

Origins
J. Alaric Productions started out as 'Alaric's Audio Parodies', with the forum's first audio parody based on Alaric's first parody, 'Cows'. It was surprisingly popular, considering it consisted mainly of Alaric reading out his parody, making slight additions when he thought of them. Building on this success, he went on to do more projects including an original audio parody of 'Bertie's Chase', with his good friend JimBobDunnie playing the part of Bertie. This too went down pretty well.

Sometime around autumn 2005, throwing all originality aside, Alaric turned his eye to redubs. He looked upon the various varieties the forum had to offer and said to himself, "Me too!" With help from Jimbob, he chose 'Rusty and the Boulder' as his first episode to redub. And after a little while, he had made 'Rusty and the Boulder: The Redub'. The thread changed its name to 'Alaric's Stuff' to reflect on the change, and the downloading began.

The redub was more of a success than Alaric had ever considered it could be, and is still quoted today. Not as much as it used to be, but sometimes at least. It soon became the most downloaded feature of Sodor Island Fansite, a fact that Alaric is still very proud of. In fact, it is not uncommon for him to mention this fact at any given opportunity.

Building on this triumph, Alaric announced a vote to determine the focus of his next redub. After a stunning 4 people voted, it was decided that 'Tenders and Turntables' would be the next redub from 'Alaric's Stuff'. Then Hyperboards crashed, and everyone was pretty bummed.

As soon as the Proboards forum was established though, Alaric jumped back with a new thread, 'J. Alaric Productions'. It was under this moniker that he released 'Tenders and Turntables' and the sequel, 'Trouble in the Shed', arguably his finest production to date. It is these redubs that hold 'The Fat Controller's Monologues', where The Old Bean will speak to the audience in the persona of the Fat Controller, with images added by Alaric.

Who knows what the future will bring for this studio? Certainly not Alaric, but he hoped that whatever it is, it will be enjoyable.

Alaric

It is true that he has written a fair number of stories in the Parodies thread, as well as the humorous Independant Work Nerds, and that J Alaric Productions specialises in comedic redubs and audio productions. However, he has also shown he has a serious side in the SiFiction story known as Rogue.

All Alaric really wants in life is to entertain others. Whether he ever succeeds in doing so is up to you to judge. Oh yeah, he's also responsible for this wiki, so watch what you say about him.

It's good.

The Fat Controller

Admin:

"Mah wurd, tha'sh a vewy fahn cashule!" - The Fat Controller, Toby's Discovery.

The Fat Controller is the overweight controller of the Sodor Railways. He is frequently parodied by members and answers to "Sir Topham Hatt". His accent is very mysterious, at least, in the UK and Australia. He appears to speak in a mix of dialects - Cumbrian, Yorkshirian, Lancastrian and Liverpudlian, with a lisp on top. It sounds most peculiar.

Nowadays, Sir Hatt features in most episodes of the TV series, and likes to randomly appear out of nowhere, to inform the engines that they have caused Confusion and Delay.

He is married with a mother and grandchildren, and currently holds the Sodor record for most ice creams eaten in one afternoon.

Numerous titles:
*Sir Topham Hatt
*Fat in the Hat
*Tubby
*Fat Tub of Lard
*Fatty
*Fat Slob

You get the picture.

It is often assumed that the Fat Controller eats a lot of food. This is a gross misconception. In 'The Fat Controller's Monologues', Sir Topham Hatt explains that his size is merely due to a hereditary glandular problem. This must be taken with a pinch of salt however, as he then says that he eats 12 slices of toast and 15 crumpets a day.

Assassin

Admin: Spelling and Grammar

Assassin is a guy. Yeah...a guy who likes Thomas the Tank Engine, and for some reason became a detective for awhile. He is probably the most moronic member of SIF, and writes many lousy parodies which result in the reader's intelligence dropping while they read. Also on DeviantART where his episode adaptions can be found. A word of caution though. His adaptions may cause the following:

Headache, drowsiness, fever, stupidy, giant drumming shadow creatures to suddenly attack you, banana rain, and various other things.

Born in New England US, he's done stuff. Yeah... While in Mexico in 2006, he was very bored, and decided to join SIF to occupy himself. He is now trying to get into redubs, but been unsuccesful, due to the fact that his voice sounds like a drunk William Hung at an all brass hillbilly's birthday party. [shamelessadvertising]He will however, be playing Smudger in Nanaki001's audio production of "Whatever happened to Smudger?"[/shamlessadvertising]

Erm...well...give me some time to think...

Nerds

Admin: Did it up good and proper

Nerds
Nerds is Alaric's first story in the Independent Works section. Started on the 21st of July 2006, it continues to this day.

Synopsis
Nerds is the story of Kyle Jordan, an employee of the comic book shop 'Dark Worlds'. The series details the various happenings in the lives of him and his friends, as they tackle life through the eyes of people on the lower end of the social ladder.

Characters
Kyle Jordan
Kyle is the main protaganist of the series. He is 18 years old and is currently waiting to go to university. He spends his time working in 'Dark Worlds' comic book shop, being one of its three employees. Kyle is based on the average nerd, having above-average intelligence, being heavily interested in science fiction and having a fixation with technology. All he wants in life is to be happy, but unfortunately the universe has other plans.

'Dark Worlds' is the ideal environment for Kyle, allowing him to indulge in gadgets and comic books. He has a slight fixation with Green Lantern, his prized possession being a replica power ring that he keeps on his person at all times. He is also fond of cartoons, both western and eastern.

All in all, Kyle's a nice guy. In a way, that's his greatest strength. In another, it's his biggest weakness.

Wally Allen
Wally has been Kyle's best friend since primary school. He is also waiting to go to university, being the same age as Kyle. He is currently unemployed, and likes it that way since it allows him so much free time. Ironically a lot of this time is spent with Kyle in 'Dark Worlds', discussing various topics of shared interest.

If Kyle is the average nerd, then Wally is the extreme. His obsession with comic books, science fiction and the internet borders on unhealthy, and he will often confuse reality with fiction. He also has a tendency to quote from various sources in his normal speech. In a way though, his freakish grasp on reality allows him to come up with creative solutions to problems. In Kyle's own words, "He's like an idiot savant, emphasis on the idiot."

Wally can often seem insensitive at times, but he's just trying to keep things real. And he does know when to stop. He just ignores it.

Conner Queen
Conner is the senior employee at 'Dark Worlds', which pretty much puts him in charge of everything. His only real abuse of his power has been rearranging his work hours so he only has to come on afternoons. Other than that he'll let his underlings do whatever they want, as long as they can justify it with a sensible reason. Conner is Kyle's idol, the kind of guy that he hopes to be in two years time.

Conner is less interested in science fiction than his friends, but a lot more interested in fantasy. He owns a number of fantasy weapons that would probably get him arrested if the police found out. Cunningly he hides them in the back of the'Dark Worlds' basement, where only fools dare to tread. He is also the GM of the weekly Heroes of the Realm role-playing game that all 'Dark World' employees (and Wally) can attend.

To outsiders Conner may seem a little disinterested with life, but his friends know that his jaded nature is just a cover for a man as happy as the rest of them.

As a wise man may have said at some point or another, mockery is the highest form of flattery. Which is why we choose to flatter the Rev W Awdryand his successors by making fun of them in the Parodies thread. Some examples of the types of things that go in there can be found at the Sodor Island Parody Pack, but this is just a small offering of the numerous parodies in the thread. Those are the ones that Ryan likes though, and he has a keen eye about these things.

It is always best to be on one's guard when entering the Parodies thread, since members will often touch subjects that people may find offensive, including swearing and other adult themes. It is definately not intended for the very young, which is ironic in a sense considering its source material.

Recurring themes that pop up in parodies include making fun of The Fat Controller's mass, poking fun at Percy's intelligence (or lack thereof) and mocking HiT Entertainment. It is not uncommon to read a parody that does all three. Sometimes though people are more original and will find other ways to amuse.

Recently there has been an upsurge in member parodies, these being humorous stories using members of SiF as characters. These are not to be confused with SiFiction, as these tend to be single one-off stories as opposed to a series. These began life under the hands of Stuart7, who would rewrite Thomas stories with members in place of the engines. After a while these became dormant, until their popularity came back with 'SiF and the Special Visitor' written by Alaric, in what he thought was an original idea at the time.

It is not uncommon to read a parody that does all three. Sometimes though people are more original and will find other ways to amuse.

Alaric

Admin: Starting out

Welcome to the Sodor Island Forums Wiki! This wiki site is designed to give information about Sodor Island Forums, or SiF for short. We still have a lot to do setting this all up, so please check back often for updates.

Contributing
In order to contribute to the wiki, please register an account. Only registered members will be allowed to add and edit pages, in order to avoid vandalism. We ask that only members of Sodor Island Forums register with us, because honestly, why would anyone else want to?
Once you have registered an account, feel free to start adding information. If you are unsure of what to do, then why not check The User's Guide for help? I mean, it's not like it'll kill you (Unless it does, in which case we apologise for killing you).
