  • Rainham Marshes RSPB: 1-2 Firecrests (Howard Vaughan et al), but no sign of putative Blyth's Reed Warbler up to 1230. Also White Wagtail, 11 Redwing, 3 Pintail, c70 Wigeon, 2 Ruff, 2 Greenshank, c25 Redshanks, 3 Dunlin, 2 Blackcaps, 5+ Stonechats, 5+ Snipe, 4 Little Egrets (David Callahan).
  • Brent Reservoir: 4 Skylarks over, also 21 Redwing, 8 Pied Wagtails, 3 Grey Wagtails, 7 Jackdaw, Siskin & Reed Bunting, plus Pintail & 2 Wigeon (Andrew Self & Roy Beddard)

  • London Wetland Centre: (0800-1200) 1 female type Merlin flew West @1210, 1 Mealy Redpoll (entrance lake- flew off towards wildside), 32 Goldfinch SW, 7 Siskin SW, 18 Linnet E, 1 brambling W +1 near 2 storey hide, 22 Redwing SW, 14 Song Thrush W + 6 'dropped in', 3 Swallow W, 4 Skylark W, 7 Mipit S, 2 Rock Pipit Wader Scrape + 1 flew W, 1 Wheatear Wader Scrape. 14 Chiffchaff on site and five Water Rail calling. Walk through the scrub towards Aveley Pools and view last bush on left near pylon at end of boardwalk, also 3 Firecrests in wooded area (Birdguides)Also 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 Hobbies, Siskin, 12 Redwing, 3 Chiffchaff, Bullfinch, 3 Brambling, 42 Wigeon, 12 Common Snipe, 15 Stonechat, Red Breasted Merganser, 60 Redshank, Rock Pipit, Lesser Redpoll, Common Sandpiper, Curlew, 3 Grey Plover, Cetti's Warbler, 2 Goldcrest and 2 House Martin (Paul Hawkins and Dave Morrison); also, Firecrest and Ring Necked Parakeet (Shaun Harvey and Dave Morrison); also, 1 Yellow-legged Gull, 1 Pintail (Gabriel Jamie); also, 2 Common Snipe, Kingfisher, 3 Ring-necked Parakeet (Purfleet), 2+ Fieldfare, Chiffchaff, good numbers of Migrant Hawker (Des McKenzie, Nick Tanner, Franco Maroevic, Rupert Kaye).

  • Richmond Park: Ring Ouzel feeding in ornamental hawthorns at top of "sidmouth slope" north-west of Pen Ponds, Herring Gull 43 SE & 13 E, Redwing 51 W, Song Thrush 35, Chaffinch 23 W & NW. No sign Of Rouzel late p.m. (J. Wilczur).

  • Barns WWT: Short Eared Owl perched on vegetation on the grazing marsh, best viewed from Wildside hide. Also Kingfisher, 3 Stonechat, Sparrowhawk, 2 Swallow, 3 House Martin and one calling Water Rail (Martin Honey).

  • Wormwood Scrubs: Dartford Warbler a first winter bird discovered in the bushes on the southern edge of Chats Paddock at 0805hrs. It was in loose association with a newly arrived winter male Stonechat. Also c8 Chiffchaff, c2 Lesser Whitethroat, c4 Blackcap, c8 'alba' wagtails over, c30 Meadow Pipit, c20 Redwing & 5 Collared Doves heading NE (our largest single flock ever!)
