  • Tyttenhanger: Woodcock, 20+Redwing, 15 Feildfare (Steve Blake).
  • Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens: ad Mediterranean Gull at Round Pond briefly a.m. before flying toward Long Water; 94 Canada Goose, 2 Egyptain Goose, 8 Gadwall, 76 Shoveler, 19 Pochard, 112 Tufted Duck, 2 Little Grebe, 5 Great Crested Grebe, Common Snipe flew west along Serpentine (then back east) 10:35hrs, ad Yellow-legged Gull (Serpentine), Tawny Owl showed well at day-roost, Green Woodpecker, 3 Pied Wagtail, xanthistic/pastel Wren, 6 Redwing, 8 Mistle Thrush, 5-6 Goldcrest, singing Coal Tit (Des McKenzie).

Monday 12th January

  • Warren Gorge (Chafford Hundred): Spotted Crake called briefly this a.m.; west end of the gorge opposite the centre, just before the path which exits the site there is a bridge, it called to the south of there along the west bank (David Darrell-Lambert per DMc).
  • Sidcup: still 4 Woodlark in small stubble field beyond the pumping station at the end of Riverside Road this afternoon (Birdguides).
  • Cuffley: Great Grey Shrike still at c.TL301015 at mid-day; viewable very distantly from car park at c.TL302021 looking south towards hedgerow that climbs the hill (Birdguides).
  • Island Barn Res: 1w m Scaup (SBC).
  • Amwell GP's: 3 Smew at Tumbling Bay early p.m. (Birdguides).
  • Beddington SF: ad Mediterranean Gull, 2 Shelduck (Dip or Glory).

  • Bittern Watchpoint (LVCP): 2 Bittern flew into reeds in front of the watchpoint 07:30hrs, one later flushed by a fox; also Water Rail (Birdguides).
  • London Wetland Centre: 1+ Bittern, 1 1st-winter Yellow-legged Gull, 1 f Smew briefly, 342 Tufted Duck, 1 Shelduck, 2 Pintail, 1 Kingfisher.   • Finsbury Park / Highbury area: outside Finsbury Park station - 1 Grey Wagtail; Emirates Stadium - 30+ Pied Wagtails flying around inside stadium and settling on pitch during 2nd half of Arsenal v Bolton!   • Bedfont Lakes CP: 5 Smew (3m, 2f) and Bittern on North Lake this morning (James Herd per Adam Cheeseman).
  • Lea Navigation: Bittern perched in treetop 70m north of Springfield Marina, first sighted 0945; still present and performing very well at 1400. Thanks to our friends on the boats for VIP access!
