Also known as Leg of Mutton Nature Reserve, the reservoir is a Local Nature Reserve and is bordered on the west by the Thames, playing fields to the north, Lonsdale Road and houses to the east while on the south is a mown lawn squeezed between the Thames and road.

Surrounding the water is thick scrub and trees on the steep concrete banks, the concrete showing only in a few places. Work by the BCTV has cleared views to the water and provide diversity in the flora and flauna.
