The Led Zeppelin of Soccersian was founded in the winter of 2004. The nation slowly meandered its way through NationStates in the first few months of life building its population, governmental ideology, policies, and population. Soccersian stayed in a few regions of little influence such as ''ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha'', ''Anarchy'', and ''The Crucible''. Eventually, the nation settled down into what would finally be called ''Utopia''.

''Utopia'' originated as a small region with virtually no influence; Soccersian was its founder. It's first true recruit was Braszil Export and that nation died of inactivity thirty days later. But by that time, due to strong recruiting and excellent leadership, ''Utopia'' grew to 100 nations in its first month of existence. Because of a military background and conservative ideology, Soccersian restructured ''Utopia'' into a "raider region." With this appeal, recruiting numbers skyrocketed. Soon, Soccersian was the proclaimed General of Utopia. 500 nations were under his control. In ''Utopia's'' lifespan, over 150 regions were raided with over 2,000 nations banned.

But the biggest war came against the region of ''Arkaskra'', another raider region boasting 500+ nations, led by Tonanashia. The first spark of war cam when Antonasia struck a ''Utopia'' satellite region called ''Turbulance'' and banned 45 nations. From that point on, for three and a half months, war was everywhere; it was all-consuming. Though the exact numbers are sketchy, estimates guess that over 750 nations were banned from 30+ regions. In the end, using a spy ally nation called Cloriden and a covert raiding party, led by Soccersian, of over 75 nations, ''Arkaskra'' was destroyed and Antonasia dethroned.

The effects of the war were at a maximum. About two months later, after several attempts at creating another top-notch regin, Tonanashia became deceased. Though ''Utopia'' was still hanging on, it had too many loopholes. One of Soccersian's best aids and top advisors, of which will remain unnamed, usurped the ''Utopia'' region in one swift night raid that banned all 60 nations. Later that night, ''Utopia'' ceased to exist and Soccersian was left in the Rejected Realms with naught but a name.

Two weeks later, Soccersian moved into the West Pacific looking for a chance to get back into the game. But, after looking at its dossier, Soccersian noticed one of its allies was the head of a region that was thriving with over 300 nations. Carops was, at the time of Soccersian's movement, the Prime Minister of Liberalia. After quickly growing in influence and using its knowledge in defense and recruiting, Soccersian became one of the top members of the region. Soon after, Soccersian became the Prime Minister of Liberalia.

==A Review from WORLD Magazine==
As I walked into the renovated terminal at New Hong, bound for a flight to the Typophilean capital of Garamond, I was amazed by the cleanliness and maintained interior as I approached the Delta check-in counter. The staff at the counter were well trained and were very hospitable as they checked in my luggage. However being over the weight limit, I was forced to hand over 50 Rois just for a ridiculous 5 pounds over the regulated weight.

Since I am a member of the OneWorld airline alliance, I was able to spend some time inside the Red Carpet Club. The interior was extremely in good taste and made a frequent traveler like myself at home. The club had a private bar, up-to-date magazines and newspapers, wireless internet connections and a business center so I could work on my articles before boarding the plane. However it should be noted that while the staff at the club are hospitable, they are not the most helpful since I asked them where my gate was and they sent me in the completely wrong direction, almost making me miss my flight.

For this review, I was lucky to grab a first class seat while they were available because I normally travel economy. Before take-off, our section’s crewmembers offered us beverages like most airlines and began small talk with the fellow passengers. This type of crew-passenger relationship is not seen anywhere else. After giving us a drink, they went up to their station and began memorizing everyone’s name, another special connection between passenger and attendant.

Being in First Class on Delta Air Lines was quite enjoyable. Just after the seatbelt sign was turned off, the crewmembers started asking people what they wanted for the complementary meal, which for this flight was dinner. They had several choices and they always have a pasta dish, two salads, a meat dish and a fish dish. This evening’s meal choices where: Grilled Flat Iron Steak, Mushroom Sage Sauce, Potato Gnocchis, spinach, yellow squash, and red onion; Eggplant Ravioli with Pomodoro Sauce, Radicchio, corn, Feta cheese and Grilled Shrimp; Pan Seared Grouper with ginger herb sauce, medley of snow peas, bean sprouts, edamame, and jasmine rice and Seared Turbot, Lobster/Dill Sauce, Lemon Basmati Rice, and asparagus. Overall the food was good except I do suggest not having the fish since it did not appear to be cooked properly before being loaded onboard.

The in-flight entertainment system has finally been converted from the overhead television screens to mini-screens at every seat but this is only one of the nice additions to the programming. To compete with other airlines, Delta has made it standard on all its medium and long-haul aircraft to be installed with Live Television, giving passengers in all classes a wide range of shows to watch at their leisure. XM radio is also onboard, adding more options. This new and improved entertainment system impressed me very much since the last time I flew the airline over a decade ago. It should be noted that since the television is live, there is the tendency to lose signal frequency when turbulence occurs, however this rarely happens. The airline also plays major films on all flights over an hour and a half long in duration. These films attempt to cover as many genres as possible for as many age groups as possible but in First Class, passengers are given a wide range that they can watch on their personal entertainment system. This is also true for economy class passengers except that they are very limited.

The attendants onboard were attentive to every need and when I need a drink, I didn't even have to ask but she knew I wanted it and gave it to me. The attendants had great personalities and charm and this made me more confortable for my upcoming meeting in Garamond. They made sure I was feeling good and when I did have the tendency to puke, they handed me a barf bag. The flight crew were good as the pilot was able to avoid much of the stormy weather that was forcasted and even let me spend a few minutes in the cockpit. Now that is service you don't get anywhere else. A small word on the bathrooms: the First Class lavatory is clean and quite decorated in Greco-Roman decor and didn't reek of bad-smelling people while the economy class lavatories: only use it if you really have to because their only marginal. However if you are flying economy on a really long flight then your bathrooms will be better.

When we arrived in Garamond, the crew thanked us as we taxied to the gate at Delta's terminal (Terminal 3) and shook our hands as we got off. I entered the terminal which has been really renvoated by the GAA in recent years. Signage inside the terminal was a little unclear because there almost no signs, however I did find the baggage claim. My luggage got off the plane a little under twenty minutes after arrival and for once all my luggage got here unlike the last time that two of them ended up in Patagon City.

Overall my travel experience on Delta was positive and I would rate this airline 4.5 stars (89%). While Delta has improved dramatically in the last decade, they still have some improvements to make before they are a perfect airline.

==A Review by WORLD Magazine==
Patagon City International Airport has been heavily renovated in recent days and finally has the real look of an international airport. Caldari Airlines choose Patagon City as a hub due to the heavy air traffic over Latagon City. As I walked to the check-in counter, the signs were clearly labeled: one for each class and then special lines for those who were in certain tiers of the Caldari Bonus program. The kiosk staff member was gracious and was very personable. Being a member of the frequent flyer program is an extra bonus because I then don't have to pay the fee for overweight baggage or overbaggage limits. Since Caldari Airlines is one of the very few airlines that operates in and out of the State, security is tight as all baggage is screened and inspected by airport and security officials before being put on the conveyor belt.

With the security checkpoint a breeze, I had time to spare in the well-decorated and furnished Dynasty Club convently across from my gate. The Dynasty Club was well furnished in oriental chairs and tables, well stocked with newspapers and magazines. An advantage of the club is that it has several unique features: a spa, a business center with free Wi-Fi internet, a complementary bar and buffet resturant and those of Diamond status, private rooms to relax before your flight. This was very relaxing and enjoyable.

When I boarded one of their major aircraft, the A380 [one of the five in the fleet], the crew, even the captain greeted me onboard with great charm and personality. Since I am a frequent flyer onboard Caldari Airlines, I purchased a First Class seat (only 15,000 miles one-way) with free miles. Pre-departure beverages were passed out as crewmembers talk to everyone in their the First Class cabin, starting conversations and chatting about their trip. Seats are very generous since they are very confortable with the ability to become a flat bed on long-haul routes, plus the most state-of-the art entertainment system (look further down for detail). While I only flew on First Class for this trip, seat pitches are generous in all classes and legroom has been greatly increased.

After take-off, our stewardesses walked about the cabin giving us all an extensive menu of several entrèes, salads, appitizers, dessets and a well diverse wine list. Since the flight was during lunch, I choose a classic caesar salad which was very good while having the rack of lamb medallions with Yukon potatoes, snap peas in a medley sauce which was simply perfect, washing it down with a very rare red wine and finishing off the entire meal with a flourless chocolate cake. Now that is the finest airline food I have ever had.

After relaxing and digesting that delicious meal, I looked into the in-flight entertainment system. The AVOD [Audio/Visual On Demand] is the most advanced system currently on the market, allowing all passengers [depending on aircraft type] to watch over 100 channels of On Demand TV, listen to over 500 stations of XM radio or over 2000 MP3's from our onboard iPods [iPods ava. only in First and Business Classes]. Caldari Airlines in First and Business Class allow passengers to select from a library of feature films while those in economy are given two choices. Or perhaps read highly interesting magazines including Silk Road, Caldari Airlines' monthly magazine which presents the changing face of the Caldari State and the world around us. Now that is entertainment! Over the next few years, Caldari Airlines plans on having all aircraft on medium and long-range routes to be equipted with AVOD.

Caldari Airlines' personnel are the very best. Any crewmember will answer any question, concern or request with a pleasant smile and charm. I didn't even have to press the call button since they could tell when I wanted assistance. I noticed that when one of the passengers pillows were not fluffed enough, one of them instantly went over to him and immediately fluffed his pillow so he would be more confortable. While on Eagle Airlines I mentioned that they chatted with you, this is the same case here on Caldari Airlines. Overall personnel were very personable and interesting. A note on the bathrooms: there is a major difference between the First/Business Class lavatories and the economy class lavatory: The First Class lavatory (shared with Business Class) is decorated in Oriental paintings and elequent flower arrangements, well stocked with toliet paper and always cleaned to perfection while the economy class bathroom can be discribed in one word: below average. While it is cleaned and supplied, its nothing more than a basic, mediocre lavatory which has a higher tendency to clog and should that happen...let's not go there.

Around 5pm Caldari Standard Time, we arrived in Xi'an, the capital of the Caldari State. However one should know that some of Caldari Airlines flights are delayed for one of three reasons: heavy traffic, bad weather or both, but this rare since the company attempts to get all flights out on time as much as possible. Baggage was on the carousel appoximately 25 minutes after arrival due to the strict security checks before they are put on the belts, just like when they were put on in Patagon City. It should also be noted that there is a very long entry procedure for the Caldari State which the crew will explain appoximately a half hour before landing, please listen carefully since they will mention important details which are required for the landing cards and other immigration forms (complicated to explain). Xi'an's terminal is very modern and clean, well signed with easy access to Downtown Xi'an via ground transportation or the newly constructed Maglev between the airport and Victory Square Station.

Overall, Caldari Airlines is a supreb airline which deserves its revered status and excellent service quality and the professional crew. Caldari Airlines is given 5 stars (98%) for an excellent and memoriable trip which gives me more and more reason to fly with them frequently. Congratulations to Caldari Airlines and its continued prosperity into the next century.

'''Dormondism''', as defined by [[Dr. Phodric Dormond]], is a right-wing, statist theory of government, represented mostly by the [[Moderate Party of the Pontanore]] (''Caropsyne: Sartoma Camasca'') which supports state-interventionism and high links between military and government figures. This political ideology was that favoured by both Dormond and [[Dr. Haldric Maldian]]. In Contrast, the '''New Left''' is a resurgent socialist movement that is embraced by much of the Pontanore's intellectual elite, and currently represents fashionable politics in the Pontanore. Pontanore governments are often reluctant to form close relations with other powers, owing to a surprising level of xenophobis throughout the Pontanore's ethnically-Caropsyne territories. Ardalia's relationship with the Pontanore is somewhat unstable, owing to memories of conflicts between the two nations. "Ardalian" is still synonymous with "drunk" or "wife-beater" in colloquial speech in Carops. In the same way, public opinions of Latagonians and Caldari shift regularly, with Latagonians generally seen as imperialist, uncultured, and having poor personal hygiene, whereas Caldari are viewed as ruthless, efficient, short, and boring. These somewhat unrealistic prejudices are often enough to determine popular support for foreign policy, regardless of contemporary situations.

Unit 666, also known as the 666th Expeditionary Battallion (even though it is not part of the military, nor battallion-sized), is a special purposes group created by the Leonsteiner Secret Service, the [[BND]]. In BND paperwork, the unit is normally referred to as "Foreign Operations Maintenance, Section B". It is led by ''Topas'', a shady figure about whom not much is known.

==Creation==

During the second period of anarchy in [[Leonstein]] following the 3rd Liberalian War, the heads of the BND became more and more frustrated with the elected establishment. Their fickleness and unreliability annoyed top BND officials and their "soft touch" on issues of regional power politics and national security did the rest. The BND secretly decided that it could no longer rely on the elected government and had to act more independently in the future.

Part of this new approach was the creation of Unit 666. The vision was to create a BND-specific special forces unit that would be the best in the region and could operate independently of the military or the elected government. Qualified individuals were found in the BND itself, in the former Foreign Legion and in private security services. Particular attention was paid to the fact that the chosen operators could have no family ties whatsoever, making it easier for them to disappear from normal life without anyone noticing. The unfortunate (though this view isn't shared by many in the BND top brass) side-effect of this approach was that the 666th exhibits a disproportionally high number of unstable loners and mentally disturbed men.

Topas was chosen as the ideal creator and leader of the unit, and was largely given a free hand in training and outfitting the 666th. In a secret camp in the mountains south of Hochheim an incredibly harsh training regime was administered by Topas, who essentially owned the lives of every single recruit. There were several cases of suicide, murder and fatal accidents, which were never investigated.

==Topas==

Little is known about Topas. The top brass of the BND decided to erase most of the records they had about the man when he took over the 666th. Rumours and hearsay is therefore the order of the day.

Topas (that of course being a codename, the real name is unknown) is between 30 and 40 years old and was almost certainly a member of the Foreign Legion before its dissolution. As such he must have had previous special forces experience and went through tough training. He believes in pushing one's physical boundaries to the limit and beyond, and it is said that several men as young as 20 died on training exercises from exhaustion when Topas still led the way almost without breaking a sweat.

It is rumoured that Topas is a "man without a conscience", who executed POWs and murdered civilians without flinching, but this is entirely unverified.

==Training==

As was noted, training for the 666th is the toughest in the region. Whenever the unit is not overseas on an operation, the training schedule is 12 hours daily. Every two weeks there is one day off, but leave passes are unheard of. Members of the unit never leave the training base except in cases of serious injury.

Apart from running, swimming, biking and various weight exercises, martial arts is on the program. Topas demands at least a second class black belt or equivalent in Karate, Jiu-Jitsu and Wing Chun Kung Fu, as well as extensive experience in free-style wrestling. However, rather than ritualised duels, the training consists of a "no rules" group brawl in which the last man standing is the winner. Topas believes that this is closer to real-world close combat than normal training, and he gladly accepts the injuries that can arise (and often do).

All members of the 666th are trained in operating military vehicles of any type, including tanks. Some flight experience in jets or helicopters is usually preferred. All types of weaponry are trained, including but not limited to mortars, grenade launchers, various rifles, pistols, machine guns and so on. The goal is to allow the operator to use every weapon found on the battlefield better than the opposition.

Tactics training is also provided in the weekly two-day maneuvres in the woods surrounding the training camp. Operators learn how to judge a situation and respond to it, from taking prisoners (though it is normally emphasises that the 666th doesn't take prisoners) to an attack on the unit with weapons of mass destruction.

==Equipment==

As far as uniforms are concerned, the 666th doesn't have any. Its operators are instructed to wear functional clothing with some camouflage and the best protective gear that can be found on the market. This makes identification by the enemy more difficult and makes it easier to melt into the local population.

Topas believes that modern military weapons are often too fragile for hard use. Not only does he hate too much electronics in his equipment, but he likes to use larger calibre weapons that can bring an opponent down in one hit, unlike many modern assault rifles.

The standard equipment for the 666th therefore consists of older weapons, the mainstay being the AK-47. As was pointed out however, the training is such that the type of equipment doesn't matter most of the time.

Otherwise the unit can freely choose from any equipment available in Leonstein's armory. Squads are normally supported by mortars, machine guns and various anti-armour and anti-air launchers.

For exceptional cases the unit has also been equipped with a number of Chinook helicopters to increase flexibility and A-10 ground attack aircraft to provide stronger fire support. However, while these are seen as very useful tools, the longer time and additional staff required to use these means that the operators always assume to go into combat without them.

==Combat History==

At this point the unit has not had any serious combat engagement. Many operators have in the past seen fighting as part of special forces or the Foreign Legion, but the unit has not been deployed since its inception.

This may change though as the BND has approved its deployment in Fishyguy as part of an attempt to stop a communist takeover by Loslakia and Nucleawasta.

Upon his graduation from UoL, he started a small media firm which rapidly became a worldwide media corporation which he continues to act as CEO. He owns several countryside villas throughout the nation but he usually stays at his oceanfront villa near the village of Sète. White is rumored to also be rather a heavy consumer of wine.
==Past Carrer==
White has served numerous government positons in Gevon during the timespan of the late Monarchy. Under Lord Steven, Matthew served as the Foreign Minister who constructed the Peace of Chentralia which ended the 1st Gevon War years ago. Upon Steven's death, Lord Gerald came to power and he was the one who thought he could restore the glory that was once Gevon so White had been given the positon of Foreign Minister once again but this time he was unable to construct the peace which would end the deadly 2nd Gevon War. Instead, Alexander Yonder (the current Foreign Minister under White's administration) ended up accepting the terms the Caldari State presented. Once White read those evil terms, he swore he would get revenge for Gevon's dishonor. White remained in the background under the last monarch, Lord Nolan when he was reassigned to Interior Minister once Gerald committed suicide after the end of the 2nd Gevon War and Lord Nolan took control. Only once the decree for free elections came eariler this past month did Matthew White reappeared.

The Nationalist Free States of Gevon is located approximately 2089 miles south of Velenora, 1850 miles south of the Caldari, 120 miles north of Cramsfordd and 4190 miles south of Typophiles. The climate is quite varied. The southern region is usually warmer and balmy. The eastern and western sides are both cooler, but the eastern side is more humid than the western. As for the northern side, it is a little colder than the rest of the nation.

Sticking to its laissez-faire policy, the government, through the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), intervenes in the economic sector depending on the policies intiated in the National Assembly, in times of emergency (e.g. natural disasters, war) or when substantial cases of economic fraud have been committed. The NFS Military is slightly undermanned since the end of the Gevon Wars. Currently the National Assembly has passed a recent budget increase for the armed services, allowing the desperately underequipted GNAF to purchase new vehicles, aircraft, tanks and arament. The GNAF has a total of around 4 million soldiers on duty, broken into the navy, air force and army. The Security Police is responsible for national security and for the nation's law and order. ==Gevon Politics==
Gevonian politics are different than most other nations. While some nations have a three-branch system, a single authority, Gevon has a special form of three-branch government. The President works with the Politburo, Adminburo and the National Assembly to maintain a healthy bureaucracy which sometimes can get very complitcated. Most of the nation's current policies are conserative with nationalist ideals in mind based upon an anti-Nationalist assembly. However with the upcoming nationwide Presidental elections, the change from a conserative and restrictive assembly to a more liberal-minded one is possible, allowing reforms which would have not happened in the first place could possibly happen now.

===Government Structure===
The Gevonian political system is made up of four groups, placed into two major branches. The President is the head of state for the NFS while the Prime Minister, appointed by the President is the head of government. The structure is explained below.
====The National Assembly====
The National Assembly consists of 577 members known as deputies, each elected by a single-member constituency. Deputies are elected in each constituency through a two-rounds system. It is presided over by a president, normally from the largest party represented, assisted by vice-presidents from across the represented political spectrum. The term of the National Assembly is two years; however, the President of the NFS may dissolve the Assembly (by i.e.: calling a new election), unless he dissolved it in the preceding year. The President of the NFS can decide to dissolve the National Assembly and call for new legislative elections. This is meant as a way to resolve stalemates where the Assembly cannot decide on a clear political direction. This possibility is seldom exercised.

The National Assembly can overthrow the executive government (that is, the Prime Minister and other ministers) by voting a motion of censure. For this reason, the prime minister and his cabinet are necessarily from the dominant party or coalition in the assembly. In the case of a president and assembly from opposing parties, this leads to the situation known as cohabitation. While motions of censure are periodically proposed by the opposition following government actions that it deems highly inappropriate, they are purely rhetorical; party discipline ensures that, throughout a parliamentary term, the government is never overthrown by the Assembly.
====The President====
The duties of the President are primarily to manage foreign affairs not only in the region but in other parts of the world as well. The President negotiates all treaties and agreements with other nations, and represents Gevon at the United Nations and at Novus Island, FAN's neutral capital. The Prime Minister also is in charge of the military during times of war and peace. The job of Prime Presidency is open to election every five years. There is no term limit to the job of President. The President is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces in times of war, has the power to appoint other delegates and ambassadors. The executive is the only one who can sign a bill into law, after it has been approved in the National Assembly or he can veto it. Whoever wins the upcoming Presidental Election shall be the first President of the NFS.
====The Politburo and the Adminburo====
The Politburo and Adminburo run the nation's massive bureaucracy, handling all matters from the issuing of passports to renewing driver's licences to approving building projects. The Adminburo is the secondary cabinet for the President who act as a sort of advisory council who make recommendations for the improvement of the bureaucracy or reform of national bureaucratic policy. Neither party of the bureaucracy has any say in final decisions of legislation.
====Elections====
The NFS does not have a full-fledged two-party system; that is, a system where, though many political parties exist, only two parties have a chance of getting elected to major positions. However Gevon politics displays some tendencies characterizing a two-party system in which power alternates between relatively stable coalitions, each being led by a major party: on the left, the Socialist Party, on the right, the Nationalist Party.

Elections are always held on Friday. The voting stations open at 8am and close at 6pm in small towns or at 8pm in cities The campaigns end at midnight the Wednesday before the election; no polls can be published, no candidate can speak on TV, on Thursday or the Saturday of the election. When people register they must have three forms of identification (passport, driver's licence, tax form, etc.) and the Voter Registration Form. Should forgery of documents be discovered, the consequences are up to ten years in prison and a fine of 500,000 Rois.

==Before the First Liberalian War==

===Early History===

When regional boarders changed, and Latagon was part of Liberalia, the young organization of nations had no clear battle lines drawn. "The Allies", brought back from WWSETI, established itself as the leading offensive organization in Liberalia, and the LTO established itself as the leading defensive organization. A number of nations joined either side, and within weeks the battle lines were clearly set.

===Assassinations===

During an uncertain time in Liberalia's history, a young man, named William Smither, went on one of the most widely known shooting sprees ever. During his reign of terror, he shot leaders in Four Hectares, Latagon, and Loslakia. Luckily only one death occured, in the nation of Latagon. Latagon's first president, "Of Latagon".* It has been claimed that this same man was responsible for the shooting of [[Lord Morclin]], Chair of the [[Fostana]]. This attempted assassination may have acctually been carried out by Elias Strana, a Curian-Caropsyne dual national, who was sentenced to death by the Fostana.**

===Sarah Quent===

Sarah Quent was chosen by Dear Leader of [[Palacetonia]] to work as a liason between [[Palacetonia]] and [[Curiaistan]]. As subsequent events would show, she became a powerful political figure and eventually became President. Introduced in the Arrival of Sarah Quent as sweeping imperiously in, she made an impact on other nation's leadership where in conversation, Caropsyne officials said:

"And what do you think?"

"Not a lot. She seems to have gained her position through horizontal negotiation,"

which probably wasn't far from the truth. As time went on, she would find herself the target of assassination attempts, devious behind-the-scene manoeuvrings with the presidency and spent the rest of her days in a wheelchair after her helicopter was shot down by a Hasadonian Missile.

Of course that's the Official Story. What actually happened is a little different. President Sadner secretly ordered the deaths of the Curian Political leadership in order to gain a shortcut to the Presidency thanks to a quirk of the Curia Constitution, this included the shooting down of Sarah Quent's helicopter and subsequently blamed it on a Hasadonian group in the area.

==First Liberalian War==

===Events leading to the war===

As the series of assassinations continued, at first it seemed like just one more attack when the Foreign Minister of [[Four Hectares]], [[Gabrielle Fisher]] fell victim to a car bomb. Blame fell on the tiny nation of [[Gmany]], and the Hectarian government began to prepare for an attack, not least because it seemed like a wise move in the efforts to stem the rise of communism in the region.

The [[LTO]] was not sitting idly by and pledged support to Gmany, which made the relatively small conflict a regional war. The Allies, of which 4H was a member, mobilised and soon the first Liberalian war broke out between the LTO and the Allies.

===Major battles and operations===

Lt Col Sadner as he was then, led a landing on the Gmany beaches to help relieve some of the pressure on Gmany and link up with some LTO members in Gmany. Finding themselves vastly out-gunned and out-manned, Lt Col Sadner lead a successful retreat to the nation of Carops. In gratitude, Sarah Quent promoted Sadner to the rank of Marshal (some say it was a bribe to stop Sadner from running for president when Sarah Quent won her first presidental election) and from there, Sadner plotted his way to the Presidency.

===Treaty of Bahia Esmeralda and implications===

The war was ended when the government of Gmany decided to sacrifice the nation for the sake of the LTO. With the balance of power clearly favouring the Allies the small nation hoped to avert worse to come for its allies.

Despite some initial protests from other LTO members against the surrender, the warring parties soon came to a table and prepared the Treaty of Bahia Esmeralda. Essentially it called for a return to the pre-war status quo, and after a brief (but impressive) orgy of god-moding involving Julio Trigman's "Science and Discovery", it was accepted.

The following weeks brought a united Liberalian effort towards mending the old wounds, rebuilding what had been destroyed and ultimately even the completed investigation into the murder of Gabrielle Fisher. 4H admitted that it had been home-grown radical green terrorists and not Gmany's agents that had perpetrated the deed, ultimately making the Allies the unfortunate aggressors in the war.

However, the peace, quiet and understanding that immediately followed the war was not to last as a trade embargo was declared on the Allies nations by the LTO.

==Third Liberalian War==

===Events leading to the war===

After the collapse of the major alliances something of an unstable power vaccuum arose. No nation in the region had anywhere near the power for example the Allies had enjoyed, but this also resulted in less checks and balances on the behaviour of individual nations.

In this climate the nation of Kalikanna called other smaller and medium powers to a conference on the small island of Kalathessaloniki. The plan was most likely to form a group with a common interest which could provide security and the protection of interests in this new uncertain future. However, the overconfidence of the attending delegations and disputes with powerful nations such as Carops soon turned the tone of the conference a lot more aggressive.

The result was an embargo against the Pontanore by the Kalikannese Alliance, which Hasadon and Caldari then joined in an effort to improve their power position in the region. Entertaining a very real fear of isolation, Carops reacted with aggressive replies to the offending nations. As the situation got out of hand and talk of war became more and more common, the Wulgerian Union (one of the original attendees of the Kalikannese summit) attempted to move into neutrality and left the region in uncertainty regarding its diplomatic status.

As accusations of spying and sabotage ran abound, it was a surprise to some as Hasadon suddenly took the opportunity to declare war on the Kalikannese Alliance, despite previously having joined their embargo against Carops. Confronted with the threat of a Hasadonian war of conquest against the smaller powers, [[Leonstein]], which had been uninvolved up to this point, affirmed its support for the Kalikannese Alliance, not least because of the belief that [[Joguk]] (which had recently returned independence to the people of Leonstein upon the return of the player to the region) would be one of the nations under threat.

The final constellation came about when Caldari joined Carops and Hasadon and the Wulgerian Union followed this move.

As a result the nations of the Kalikanna Summit (Curiaistan, Shawnworshippers, Kalikanna, [[Cheesyweesy]]; also known as the [[Curian Bloc]]) and Leonstein stood on one side, the three major powers of Carops, Hasadon and Caldari on the other, with the WU as support.

===Jogukian Theatre===

In the confusion of the days leading up to the war the [[military of Leonstein]] had originally thought to be fighting alongside Joguk, but as the country made a last-minute switch to support Caldari, this was not to be. This however meant that Leonstein was in effect violating a friendship treatly only signed days before.

Since Joguk was ruled by an unstable dictator, Leonstein's military machine had had plans for a war against the country for some time, and these came into effect immediately. The idea was to win a quick victory over the smaller and weaker Joguk, instigate a regime change and then use the country as an arena to stage an invasion of [[Gregon]], from which in turn the mainlands of Carops and Caldari could come under attack. While Leonstein took this northern route, the hope was that the Kalikannese Alliance would overpower Hasadon and attack the major powers along a southern route.

The operation was to be centred around a main thrust through the mountain passes between the two countries, and two landings to overcome defensive positions. The first landing began only a day after the war was declared, with Marines conquering the small town of Hyongbo along the northern coast. The town's harbour was used to land several divisions of motorised infantry, which cut off the retreat from the mountain passes.

The main attack began at about the same time with a massive concentration of air power, artillery and infantry assaults. The Jogukian troops were soon in severe difficulties, facing a choice between standing and fighting to the death or a retreat into Joguk's interior, which was perfect tank country. They chose the former, and the few survivors fled into the woods were they continued to be a nuisance for the remainder of the war.

Once the mountain passes were taken, tank columns could make massive inroads in the flat country and its highway system. Pockets of resistance were encircled or bypassed and within a few days Leonsteiner troops reached the capital [[Kyongyang]].

However, the resistance encountered here slowed the advance down sufficiently for significant numbers of troops from Caldari to arrive. The Battle for Kyongyang looked more and more like a major clash rather than the quick victory the Leonsteiner leadership had hoped for. This extra time allowed not only the landing of additional Caldari Forces, but the arrival of Caropsyne troops as well, ending the hope for a quick end to the war.

In the early days of the battle the Leonsteiner forces succeeded in encircling the city and cutting off the electricity. Skirmishes and firefights in northern suburbs, such as Sadong-guyŏk brought no clear winner as Jogukian and Caldari forces intensified their resistance. It was only the second landing, this time more than 15,000 Leonsteiner Marines landing directly in Kyongyang Bay, which turned the tide. Now under attack from two sides, the defenders had to retreat towards Kim Il Sung Square in the city centre.

At this point the Party Secretary Dae, the highest regime official still in the city, was presented with an official request for a Jogukian surrender, which he signed shortly after. This, although a propaganda victory, had little military value as Jogukian troops continued to fight alongside Caldari soldiers in Kyongyang or simply joined Caropsyne troops landing along the west coast. Nonetheless, an Interim Government was established at least on paper, and many Jogukians joined the Leonstein-trained Interim Stability Forces.

With the battle seemingly won, the Hasadonians suddenly got involved with a hair-raising maneuvre: many hundreds of transport aircraft made the flight to the city and proceeded to attempt an airborne assault about 100,000 strong. Even today many Latagonian families are deeply unhappy with this decision by the Confidahnt, to send so many of their sons and daughters on a mission which was doomed to failure. It has become a popular tale of folklore in Latagon and heroic deeds are often compared to the "Jump on Kyongyang". There is an elite group of Men in the Latagonian Aircorps, which are given the title of "The Devil's Squadron". These 1,400 men are the only survivors of the ill-fated jump, and are the only men in Liberalia to have been bestowed with the Golden Cross (Which was an award made especially for the men.)

With a sizable Leonsteiner fleet in the bay and an army holding most of the city, the assault faced stiff anti-air fire. Most of the planes were destroyed, many of them with the paratroopers still on board. There was little coordination, and many soldiers were simply happy to be out of the planes. During the night the city sank into chaos as any semblance of military structure or order disappeared. The Hasadonians were engaged wherever they landed, and when dawn finally came less than 20,000 paratroopers had managed to retreat to fortified housing blocks.

Only a day later the Caldari General Yi and the Sixth CPLA Army attempted to break the siege of the city after having his soldiers march all day and all night without break. But instead of becoming a celebrated hero, the General found himself in trouble when a pincer movement by the Leonsteiner Military threatened to destroy his forces. He gave the order to retreat shortly after.

The Battle ultimately ended with the Caldari Forces retreating northwest and coming under attack from the Leonsteiner Air Force, the last Hasadonian paratroopers either falling in combat or going into captivity and Kim Il Sung Square being held by the few surviving Jogukian and Caldari soldiers who were rapidly running out of ammunition.

The war ended abruptly at this point, with neither side having won a clear victory. Once again, the player in charge of Leonstein left the region and [[Forthampton]] and Joguk established an interim government.

''LMS Leonstein'' is the future flagship of the Naval Forces of the Thalassocratic Republic of [[Leonstein]]. It is currently being in the final stages of construction by NMSC at the Fisch & Kopp Special Purpose Naval Yards in Piel. It is generally assumed to be the most powerful warship in Liberalia when completed, but due to its prohibitive cost (the project is estimated to have cost close to 2 trillion Leonsteiner Marks) it will remain a one-off design.

==Planning History==

During the government of Chancellor Kasselbroek Leonstein was becoming an increasingly self-confident and assertive player in regional politics. Part of this new self-confidence was a stronger focus on the military which led to Leonstein having one of the largest defence budgets in the region.

During this time the political leadership was increasingly eager to display this military power outwardly. Even though the Naval Officers did not think such a project was necessary, a feasibility study into a new flagship was launched and lasted a year. During this time costs and benefits were weighed up and designers were called in to give evidence.

In early 2003 the decision was made to construct such a ship, and that it would carry the name ''LMS Leonstein''. A secret contract offer was issued for several companies to construct the behemoth, but only the design by Fisch & Kopp was chosen after several features of the alternatives were incorporated. The order was made official on the 1st of July of that year.

On a company level the firm continued to work out improvements and came up with a construction plan. It was decided that an extension to the Special Purpose Yard facilities in Piel was necessary and the work on this began immediately. In the meantime parts of the ship were being engineered and constructed all around the country by Fischer & Kopp and various subcontractors, as well as defence giant NMSC.

The work on the project was made public about a year later as the first parts of the hull were assebled in Piel. Although the ship was nowhere near completion, there was much public attention devoted to the project for a week or so, after which other news became more interesting again.

A major ceremony was held on the 19th of April 2007 to celebrate the launch of the massive vessel. The launching procedure went by without a hitch and the ship left the wharf to undergo two months of sea trials and final calibrations before it will be officially handed over to the Navy.

==Design==

The challenges in producing a ship of this size were enormous. The ability to defend against any conceivable threat was considered of the greatest priority, as the ship would make an inviting target for any potential opponent.

In order to secure maximum stability and seaworthiness a trimaran design was chosen, which had the further advantage of large parts of the ship being seperated from one another, meaning that any one cell could take greater damage. The hull is covered by 3.5-5 inches of composite armour similar to that found on main battle tanks and a further 15 inches of hardened steel armour beneith that. It is therefore the most heavily armoured object in Liberalia, estimated to withstand almost anything.

In order to prevent this armour being hit, the main priority of the armament design was defensive in nature. A wide array of 3" autocannons can cover the ship against small vessels coming in from any direction, and a huge computerised network of anti-air cannons, anti-air missiles as well as point-defense Phalanx and RAM complete the picture.

The offensive armament is impressive, though perhaps more suited to attacking targets along coast lines. The 20" "Goliath" cannons are the largest naval guns in Liberalia and are designed to fire shells up to 3.5 tons in weight, though by using sabots smaller calibres can also be used. The standard shell for the Goliath cannon is rocket-assisted and GPS directed and weighs 2.75 tons. By specifying a target's GPS coordinates, the firing officer can then shell a target up to 50km away with an accuracy of approximately 50 metres.

The smaller auxilliary guns are much more standard 8" versions also capable of using rocket-assisted and GPS directed shells but of course with much less power.

To complement the weapons, there is an array of launch ramps for cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles of various types, as well as several torpedo tubes to fight off submarines.

Air cover is provided by a selection of NH90 helicopters to provide reconnaissance, transport capacity and anti-submarine capabilities. This is complemented by several reconnaissance remote-controlled drones.

==Combat History==

The current deployment doctrine for the ''Leonstein'' is still being modified as new things about the ship become finalised. It is however primarily a piece of power demonstration more than anything else, and since it is only a single ship, has not been assigned a major function in the navy's doctrine.

It is planned that the ship will never operate alone, but always within a task force of smaller escort units and aircraft carrier forces which would offer additional air cover. In this setting the ''Leonstein'' could greatly increase the firepower of the fleet both against naval and land targets.

Furthermore, there is cargo space on board for up to a thousand marines and their equipment, which may then complement a landing operation if required.

==Controversy==

Under a controversial "Executive Independence Act" the cabinet at the time of Chancellor Kasselbroek's government had the right to make decisions regarding military matters without having to consult the parliamentary process, and was able to require members of parliament not to divulge information about the project to the public.

When the project was revealed the resulting controversy was quite large. Even though many could not help but feel fascinated by the project, its practical uses were limited, and the price tag enormous. To the opposition the ship was a symbol of a defence budget having gotten out of hand to the point where trillions were sunk into a ship the navy didn't even need. The Greens were also opposed to the ship's nuclear reactors, which are larger than any other such devices installed on a naval platform.

Further shadow was thrown on the ship when an explosion at a munitions factory that supplied the 8" Cannons to Fisch & Kopp killed three workers. It was revealed that bribes had been paid to the security inspectors and thus health and safety measures had been neglected.

Military opposition has been heard too. Retired Navy Admiral Wittinger has voiced concerns that the enormous logistical requirements for the ship to be operated presented a drain on the navy and that the same amount of money could have been spent much more wisely. However, several internal investigations and projections by the admiralty have concluded that the ''Leonstein'' could easily be supplied without any compromises made anywhere else. An expansion of the logistics fleet has also been announced.

Günther von Hagen (6.1.1957 - 17.8.1986) was the last Chairman of the Popular Council of the Socialist Republic of [[Leonstein]], known for his involvement in the gas attacks on Lemmburg which killed more than 200,000 civilians.

==Early Childhood==

Von Hagen was born into a well-off family of party officials in January 1957. His father was a political commissar of the SRL's military forces and veteran of the Second Leonsteiner War, his mother a stay-at-home housewife. 
His father took it upon himself to teach his only son about politics, soon indoctrinating young Günther with propaganda and militarism. When the boy turned six, his father sent him to a party-run military school, where he spent the next twelve years. He graduated with a final thesis entitled ''"On the Uses of the Military in achieving Communism"''. 

==Military Career==

After graduation in early 1975, Günther joined the political wing of the People's Army, but unlike his father his deep and thorough understanding of political ideology and his success in combining it with organisational policies soon saw him rising through the ranks. His success in creating a new experimental form of self-sufficient armoured infantry regiment made him a household name within the army, and saw him transferred to the office of personnel management in 1978. He became a go-to man, initiating and completing transformation programs and devising new training schedules whenever necessary. 
It was during this time that he became increasingly frustrated with the technical and economic limitations of the People's Army, caused by the failings of the SRL's economic system and the lack of support for the military coming from the ageing [[Max Bechtel]]. He wrote numerous letters to high party officials to gather support for a thorough transformation of the People's Army, but to no avail. Disillusioned, he lost faith in Bechtel's leadership and began to suffer from depression. 

==The Summer Protests==

In Summer 1982 von Hagen finally overcame his depression as the country threatened to disintegrate due to nation-wide protests. The government was weak and indecisive, and it was thanks to a group of hardline military minds, including von Hagen, that Bechtel could eventually be persuaded to okay the use of force against the protestors. 
Von Hagen took control of the 3rd Guards Armoured Infantry, the unit he had transformed several years earlier. It had perhaps the most critical job in securing the capital Zentralia without attracting international attention. 
His use of psychological warfare, false rumours and measured use of force at the right moments must be regarded as one of the greatest achievements of this kind, as the masses disintegrated out of fear of a massive crackdown that was never actually about to occur. His successful strategy was then employed by military units in other cities, to finally quell the Summer Protests by early September.

==Ascension to Power==

After his success von Hagen soon became an insider name within the party leadership. Bechtel's inability to take action had convinced the immediate circle of ministers and officials that he had become a liability. They repeatedly asked Bechtel to step down from power, which he refused. Suspiciously, Bechtel died in late November of that year. Although the circumstances of his death have not been determined, it is generally accepted that he was "removed" by the party to make way for a new leader. 
Surprisingly, this new leader turned out to be Günther von Hagen. Despite not having held a government post previously, he was chosen as Bechtel's successor due to his perceived neutrality when it came to other party bigwigs. It was expected that von Hagen could be manipulated fairly easily. Unfortunately, this turned out to be incorrect. On the 2nd of December 1982, von Hagen became the Chairman of the Popular Council and immediately began to centralise power, mainly due to moving military associates into powerful positions and generally increasing the power of the military in the country.

After the third Leonsteiner War and the following reunification, most Leonsteiners were happy with their government pursuing a pacifist course, with very low defence spending and few troops. There was never again to be a war of aggression fought in Leonstein’s region. 
However, with Chancellor Hessler’s death in 2003, this policy was reviewed. The new Chancellor and his government felt that it was vital that the hard-won peace should be exported, with a policy of political, economic and even military intervention supposed to improve living conditions for people around the world. It remains a controversial policy, and as of today, seems to have ended in failure due to a lack of broad regional support. 
Nonetheless, in 2004 Chancellor von Bilgen presented a reform plan for the Leonsteiner Armed Forces, which at that time were little more than a basic force kept from the former wars, supposed to protect the borders from illegal traffic and the like.

==Past Operations==

===Operation Helferling===

The first operation outside the borders of Leonstein occured during the Caropsyne Civil War, when communist forces gained control of much of the country. At the request of the Caropsyne government, but mostly out of concern of the local humanitarian situation, the military was sent into the town of Tethgess.
The use of special forces to capture the airport and the following rapid deployment meant that resistance was minimised, leaving the military free to pursue their main goal: the establishment of a zone of relative peace around Tethgess to which civilians could flee and feel relatively secure.
This goal was largely achieved as ill-equipped and surprised communist militias were driven out of the area.
The only major incident occured several weeks into the operation along the coast near Kimmlish. A Leonsteiner aircraft carrier was on the way north when it received requests for aid from Corporate Union forces that had been ambushed and beaten back by captured Caropsyne naval units under control of communists and rogue officers. The jets of the LMS Schwerin attacked two older Caropsyne battleships with long-range anti-ship missiles. Operated by too few and inexperienced sailors and without the support of Aegis auxilliaries, the battleships had little chance of resisting. One was sunk immediately as the Moskit missile hit, the second was heavily damaged and dragged itself back into port.
After several months and the declaration of peace and democratic elections in Carops, Operation Helferling was concluded a success and the forces were called back home.

===Third Liberalian War===

After several confrontations with [[Carops]] about the territorial extent of the [[Pontanore]], the outbreak of the [[Third Liberalian War]] was the outlet for the aggressive elements in the government to finally put the military to a real use.

Plans which had originally been drawn up to defend the country against its volatile neighbour [[Joguk]] were suddenly used offensively as Joguk switched its allegiance to Carops. Fearing the use of Joguk's territory as a base of operations against Leonstein, the preemptive invasion of the country was ordered.

It was during this war that the excellent training and funding of the forces paid off. Joguk's military was outgunned in all major areas and a combination of smart strategy, tactics, intelligence gathering, overwhelming air support and logistics soon resulted in the capital [[Kyongyang]] being surrounded.

Urban combat resulted and slowed down the speed of operations significantly. Even though the Battle of Kyongyang was ultimately a victory for Leonstein, with Latagonian and Caldari Forces routed and the regime of Joguk replaced with an interim government, the combat had slowed down the entire invasion sufficiently to allow significant Caropsyne and Caldari forces to land in Joguk. Strategically the invasion was therefore a failure, a lesson which the military brass took to heart.

The First Leonsteiner War was the continuation of ideological differences between different parties of the revolutionaries who overthrew the First Republic in 1952. First fighting occured around the same time, but the war is generally considered to have begun on the 14th of March 1953, when Max Bechtel led his troops to capture Ahlen.

==Background==

The revolution against the autocratic government of the First Republic was mainly carried by the PFDL, a group that began as a discussion circle for disaffected intellectuals, but soon morphed into a widespread, well-armed dissident movement. However, the different wings of the PFDL found themselves in grave disagreement over the future course of the country.
After first clashes during the latter half of 1952 between armed gangs pledging allegiance to different factions, the Ahlen Conference was held in Februrary 1953 to find a compromise. Attempts failed, and thus [[Max Bechtel]], the leader of the Communist wing, led his militia into the capital and captured it.

==The Parties==

Numerous factions fought for control of the nation. Initially many variations of communist and socialist thought existed, but these were destroyed one by one and integrated into Bechtel's red army.
On the other side, capitalists, royalists, liberals and democrats soon saw the need to come together. The most powerful royalist faction refused, but faded into obscurity after its leadership was killed on Christmas Eve 1953. The remaining anti-communist forces rallied under the banner of Ordoliberalism, aspiring a system in which the market may roam free, but in which the government provides the framework.
Other factions had split off these major directions early on, but never managed to win great successes militarily, and eiher disintegrated over time or were destroyed by one of the two major parties.

==Major Battles==

For most of the war, the country was in general chaos. Already devastated by the strikes that occured during the revolution, the economy collapsed and most lived in a state of anarchy. In this situation the different militia groups attempted to secure victory by eliminating opposition leaders and supporters, often using horrible methods.
Bechtel's initial capture of Ahlen was aimed at driving the Ordoliberals into the countryside in order to win control over both the official political process and major industries. However, the victory was shortlived. The ordoliberal militias began to organise into a fighting force, and began taking over other cities.

===Worms, 1953===

The first of the major battles occured in Worms, south of the capital. Controlled by an Anarcho-Syndicalist warlord, the city was almost a state on its own when Bechtel ordered the siege. Supplied with old artillery from WWII by the Soviets, he threatened to destroy the town if it wasn't turned over to him. His ultimatum was refused, and streetfighting went on for some five weeks, with artillery destroying whole blocks, the civilians often caught in the crossfire.
After the success at Worms, Bechtel managed to secure support from the Soviet Union in the form of some 100 T-55 tanks and another 200 armoured infantry carriers. Several convois carrying these, and additional weapons and ammunition, were to land in Wörmerhaven. This important port city therefore became a vital strategic target for both parties. Clashes around the highway between Worms and Wörmerhaven continued for several weeks, until the first tanks arrived. Using these, Bechtel immediately took control of the highway, forcing the Ordoliberals to retreat.

===Ahlen, 1953/54===

Having had to retreat, the Ordoliberal leadership soon saw the opportunity to take Ahlen from Bechtel's forces. While trying to secure the Soviet supplies at all costs, Bechtel had moved most of his militias south towards Worms, leaving few credible forces behind.
In late November Ordoliberal forces supported by the Royalists marched into Ahlen, easily routing the communist militia in the city.
However, Bechtel was not about to let this go unpunished. By mid-December, as the snow began to cover the city, he sent his best forces, spearheaded by the newly formed 1st People's Armour Division against Ahlen. However, the bad weather and urban environment didn't suit the tanks, leaving the communists with little choice but to attack the city with infantry. Urban combat lasted for almost two months, at the end of which casualties were so great that Bechtel had to worry that he wouldn't find enough capable men to restock his division. He ultimately decided to retreat.
This victory for the anti-communist forces restored parity to the two sides and ended all hopes of a quick communist victory.

Max Bechtel (14.5.1913 - 28.11.1982) was a communist politician and between 1955 and 1982 the Chairman of the Popular Council of the [[Socialist Republic of Leonstein]]. Also known for a number of important theoretical works in the area of Applied Socialism, Bechtel is generally accepted to have shaped the political arena of [[Leonstein]] for many years, and said to be the architect of both the First and the Second Leonsteiner War.

== Childhood and early Campaigning ==

Born in 1913 into a fairly poor family of twelve, Bechtel surprised many with his intellect at a young age. His father, working in a steel mill, could not afford to provide his son with a quality education, but he managed to occasionally buy second-hand books. 
First showing a keen interest in theology and philosophy, the young Max soon shifted his interest to Marxist critiques of Capitalism and the history of the Communist Movement. Fascinated by the Russian Revolution, the twenty-year old Bechtel left home for the USSR, where he got further education in methods and goals of the revolution. 
Upon returning to Leonstein in 1947, he immediately set upon changing the political situation in the First Republic, first by inspiring various union movements and writing agitative scriptures, later by helping to start the People's Front for a Democratic Leonstein (PFDL). Started during a meeting of various dissenters and union leaders, this party made for a curious mix of Communists, Socialists and Ordoliberals. Nonetheless, the PFDL gained in strength, and soon became the driving force in the revolution.

== Revolution and War ==

The [[Leonsteiner Revolution]] was primarily organised by the PFDL, and lasted until 1953, when the First Republic ended and the PDFL was meant to take over power. However, by then the differences between the two wings of the movement had become too strong, and Bechtel realised that it could no longer serve the creation of a Socialist Leonstein. 
After the failure of the Ahlen Conference in early 1953, Bechtel led the first militia force of the [[First Leonsteiner War]] into the capital, and took it after a short and violent confrontation. 
By then he had become the principal leader of the Left in the country, and his speeches and writings inspired thousands to join the PDA, the Popular Defense Army - a large militia, which over time split apart with its core forming the armed forces of the later Socialist Republic of Leonstein. 
When the war ended in 1955, with enormous damage done to the nation and more than 700,000 dead, Bechtel was elected the Chairman of the Popular Council unanimously. His first project was to introduce a Soviet-style economic system with all industries being nationalised, and three-year plans forming the grounds for economic recovery. At the same time, he commissioned the creation of a new capital for the new nation, which he christened "Zentralia".

== Leader of the SRL ==

The planned economy did wonders for economic recovery, with early famines paling in comparison to what the people had endured during the war. Industries were rebuilt, and Zentralia soon became the largest, most impressive metropolis in the nation. 
Buoyed by these successes, voices began to call for a forced reunification with the North, which had enjoyed a slower recovery, and was often seen as a soft target. Further strengthened by Soviet support with military materials, Bechtel agreed to the plan to attack the North in 1961, and which was to be carried mainly by Armoured Forces. 
However, the [[Second Leonsteiner War]] did not go well, and the early offensive was soon worn down by the North's airpower and stubborn resistance. For nearly four years the stalemate lasted, with neither side being able to break the lines. After the last Southern Offensive got stuck, Bechtel agreed to peace talks which resulted in the creation of a definite border between the two nations and a DMZ. 
After the 1965 peace accord, the two nations cut all contact completely. Only occasionally would spies or reconaissance missions cross the borders, with propaganda on both sides leading to an increasing glorification of the horrible wars that had occured earlier, and rampant militarism. Even plans to obtain Nuclear Weapons were pondered, but lacking Soviet support, Bechtel could not create the funds and knowledge necessary. 
However, the star of the SRL was sinking. Repeatedly falling ill, Bechtel began to lose control of his party, with different factions beginning to deviate on issues like foreign policy or freedom of speech. At the same time, the SRL's economy was breaking apart, with numerous new technologies transforming the North while the South's government was faced with more and more production bottlenecks and shortages. While initially protests were infrequent and of no major importance, by the early 1980s the population was restless. 
After suffering a stroke in 1979, Max Bechtel was spending much of his time in bed, while party officials contradicted each other and did little to solve the grave issues facing the SRL.

== The Summer Protest and Conspiracy Theories ==

In Summer 1982 nationwide protests spread, with voices calling for democratisation and the end of the Socialists' rule. During this time Max Bechtel did not act, a single Television appearance only serving to convince the public that his rule was over. Old and frail, even his loyal supporters could do little but pity him. 
When the army finally cracked down on the protests, and an international scandal was only averted by the surprisingly low number of dead, the party leadership decided that change was needed. In October they asked Bechtel to step down, but he refused. Since the constitution did not provide for a mechanism to force him, there seemed little choice but to wait for Bechtel's death. 
Surprisingly, Max Bechtel died in late November, less than three weeks after the last resignation offer was rejected. Only a week later, [[Günther von Hagen]], a relative newcomer in the party leadership, was chosen as new Chairman. 
There have been many theories regarding Bechtel's sudden death. Official accounts speak of liver- and kidney failure, but most Leonsteiners believe that he was poisoned. No such allegations could be proven, and understandably no records exist of such a plan. Nonetheless, with the autopsy record being officially stamped by the party headquarters, the exact circumstances of Max Bechtel's death remain shady.

The Leonsteiner Revolution refers to a period between 1951 and 1953 in which the First Republic of [[Leonstein]] was overthrown, and which ended with rival factions engaging in violent civil war.

== Background ==

The First Republic of Leonstein had been declared in 1889 in the Treaty of Ahlen. It was organised along hierarchical lines, with a ruling class of rich industrialists, nobility and even religious leaders making the decisions. Suffrage was only extended to owners of land or capital, thereby excluding the majority of the population. 
While this wasn't unusual at the time, by the early 1950s all other such states had long since changed or been destroyed. The uncanny ability of the rulers of the first republic to stay neutral and not get involved with the major geopolitical changes that occured meant that its archaic and autocratic rule remained intact. 
However, the revolutions, popular movements and democratisation in Europe and all around the world had also made an impact in Leonstein. Dissidents became a common sight, workers began to ignore the laws forbidding strikes, and even formed labour unions.

== The PDFL ==

From these early, unofficial unions came the People's Front for a Democratic Leonstein, also known as PFDL. It began its existence as a discussion group for disaffected individuals and included workers and even some intellectuals from all industries and trades. When in 1950 the first national conference of the PFDL was held, police had violently cracked down on the group, and subsequent meetings were held in secrecy. 
However, in late 1951 a new legal code regarding labour relations proved to be the final straw. Originally meant to make it easier for employers to detect and punish union activity, instead the law spawned nation-wide protest actions, largely organised by the different cells of the PFDL. 
The government hit back, once again with violence. But this time tensions had become too great, and workers were no longer willing to take it. The PFDL Leadership (among them a young and energetic [[Max Bechtel]]) proclaimed that the time of the ruling classes was up, and that democracy would come now or never. 

PFDL began to organise raiding parties of armed men and women which would attack police stations and other government institutions, and then disappear back into protesting crowds moved there as diversion. At the same time, large civil disobedience actions began, and a general strike was declared that covered almost all industries, with the only exceptions being the production of foodstuffs and other essentials. 

== The Split ==

Only a few months into the campaign, with the government attempting to gather all military forces still loyal to it in order to retake the metropolitan areas, first divisions in the opinions of the PFDL leadership became apparent. On one side, a liberal movement, inspired by Ordoliberalist philosophers and economists like Wilhelm Röpke argued that it would be best for the country to establish a democracy along the lines of the West, with universal suffrage, as low taxation as possible and with capitalism as its economic system. 
On the other side, Max Bechtel and his comrades were arguing along the lines of socialist revolutions worldwide. They felt that the things the PFDL despised about the Republic were not small details, but the very system itself. They argued that a successful revolution would have to completely do away with the society that had been established. They wanted a planned economy, close relations with the Soviet Union and, most importantly, the abolition of private property.

== Victory and War ==

In September 1952 the First Republic ceased to exist. After the last loyal forces had been forced to surrender, nothing stood in the way of the PFDL to take the capital. When the first militias stormed the Parliament, they found that the leadership had since disappeared, and were on their way to move to South America. 
Nonetheless, the masses were impetuous with their victory. But the first cracks in the façade had appeared. Communist and liberal PFDL militias had occasionally gotten into violent disagreements, and in some places, open warfare had erupted between the two. 
Fearing civil war, both the Communists and the Ordoliberals decided to hold the first meeting since victory in early 1953. Known as the Ahlen Conference, it was meant as a forum to reconcile the differences and create a common government that could re-establish law and order and repair the damage done by the strikes and fighting. 
However, an agreement was no longer possible. Both sides had prepared intensively, and developed very strong visions for the direction of the country, and a compromise could not be found. Furthermore, continued clashes between militias all across the nation became a serious issue. 
It was Max Bechtel who ended the conference after five days with his famous quote: “Gentlemen, we have nothing more to say to each other. History will settle this issue.” 
Two weeks later, he led an army of two thousand men and women into the capital and captured it, thereby ending the final phase of the revolution and beginning the First Leonsteiner War which would result in the division of the country, to last until 1987.

The population of Leonstein is ethnically homogenous, but has in recent years been exposed to increased immigration. Originally populated by Germanic tribes and Viking settlers in the first millennium AD, modern Leonsteiners see themselves as a unique culture, shaped by its past and its future aspirations. Only today, more than 18 years after the era of conflict and war ended in the country do immigrants become a more common sight on the streets of Leonstein.

===Language===

The official language in Leonstein is a dialect of German, but particularly along the coast, Platt is also widely used. This language was first introduced by traders from Northern Germany (Hamburg in particular) who set up various trading businesses and warehouses in some cities. The link between Hamburg and particularly Ahlen was strengthened further when Ahlen became a member of the Hanseatic League. 
Further inland, High German is the accepted language, but the government's strong focus on education has led to about 75% of the population being reasonably fluid in English as well.

===Religion===

First introduced to catholic Christian beliefs in 1123 AD, Leonstein has always been home to a variety of denominations. Today the dominant religion is Protestant Christianity, with Catholicism being more prevalent in the South. Other religious groups adhere to traditional Germanic heathen beliefs, Sunni-Islam and Orthodox Christianity. It must be noted however that the government has taken a strictly non-religious approach to politics in recent years, a move often criticised by lobby groups.

== Government ==

The Federal Republic of Leonstein is, since its reunification in 1987, a democratic republic. It is formally a federation of 7 states and principalities, but various governments have reduced the power of state governments to near naught.
The parliament (known as ''Bundestag'') has 100 seats, with federal elections every four years determining the distribution.
Furthermore the ''Bundesrat'' serves as upper house, with 50 seats.
The Bundestag votes for the Federal Chancellor, who is the head of government and chooses his ministers.

==Economy==

The restructuring of the formerly socialist south has been virtually completed in recent years, and former Chancellor von Bilgen had made it his goal to ensure that a modern social market economy can survive in a globalised world. This entailed a progrssive tax system with a focus on keeping non-wage labour costs low and financing retirement, welfare and health expenses directly through a mixture of tax earnings and subsidies on private provisions. This path has been largely abandoned by the much more free-market OLP, resulting in unprecedented economic growth but also increasing inequality. 
Today the markets in Leonstein are among the most free in all of Liberalia, leading to incredible stories of personal success, but also many unfortunate tales of hardship. 
The major industries in Leonstein are retail and IT, but recent uranium finds in the western mountains have opened another market. In recent years the emergence of a vibrant movie industry, particularly in Leonberg, often dubbed "Lollywood", has put Leonstein on the map internationally. 

==History==

===Early Settlement===
The earliest archaeological findings along the eastern coast and islands suggest that the first Germanic settlers (most likely originating from what is today England and France) landed in today's Leonstein in between 400 and 500 AD. Some recent finds suggest that there had been earlier populations, however their cultural roots could so far not be identified.
Little is known about life in these early Germanic towns, but there is little to suggest that their culture changed much from its origins. This changed however when Vikings, likely originating from Norway, settled on Leonstein’s coast. Often violent conflict followed, with the battle of Hugenord (approx. 850AD) the most prominent confrontation.
But until the first arrival of Catholic priests in the 12th century Florianistan remained unknown to European culture, such that written records from the time before this are sparse.

===The Middle Ages===

The introduction of Catholicism and its strict order of feudalism merely served to reinforce the power of local warlords, both Germanic and Nordic, who now took to assuming the grace of god as justification for hereditary rule.
Feudalism thrived in these years, and indeed, the first mention of the name “Leonstein” (Leon’s Rock) was found in a 1345 edict by Leon I. as the name of his grand castle. This king defeated a number of Viking leaders, and crowned himself Emperor of an area which encompassed much of today’s Leonstein. His dynasty held on to most of the land over the next 400 years.

===The End of the Leonide Dynasty===

With the 18th century beginning to change the social landscape to a large extent, and revolutions threatening a number of European kingdoms, Leonstein too came to an end. Two sons, who were meant to share the kingdom after their father’s death, fought each other bitterly over more than twenty years, until a popular revolt overthrew the house of Leon and instead resulted in a large number of smaller provinces coexisting peacefully. Over time it became clear though that the Industrial Revolution and Imperial Power would bypass the nation. While never being claimed by a European nation, the Leonsteiner states nonetheless remained powerless.

===The First Republic===

This state of obscurity and disunity continued until 1889, when the treaty of Ahlen resulted in the first Republic being declared. Modelled after the earlier French republics, the nation did have a large noble class, but gave power to popular representation. Obviously, the large wealth disparities, and the relative power of local nobility resulted in the peasants being excluded from the political process, a phenomenon reinforced by the 1895 introduction of an income-contingent suffrage. The first Republic survived both WWI and WWII by staying neutral and not getting involved, although ties to the Anglo-Saxon Allies became a predominant pillar of the ruling classes up until 1951.

===Revolution===

After 62 years of no political representation and a continued status as servants, the poor finally had enough. Inspired by successful revolutions in Eastern Europe and Asia, and anticipated successes in Africa and Latin America, the People's Front for a Democratic Leonstein (PFDL) was founded, and soon began its operations. 
Initially a peaceful movement, the harsh treatment of dissenters by the ruling strata soon resulted in violent uprising. Roughly a year later a combination of attacks on Government institutions and campaigns of civil disobedience succeeded in bringing about the end of the First Republic. However, all was not well. The revolutionaries had split into two major factions: the Ordoliberals, who wished for a free country along capitalist lines, and the Communists, who instead wanted the establishment of a socialist republic. The irreconcilable tension between the two factions resulted in civil war by the end of 1952.

===The Divided Country===

February 1953 saw the final split between Communists and Liberals in the Ahlen conference. The Communist leadership had issued an ultimatum and when the Liberals rejected, the civil war began. It lasted until 1955, with approximately 700,000 dead, and was particularly gruesome due to the direct involvement of the civilian population. Militias raided and plundered aimlessly, and no conventions of warfare were adhered to by either side. 
However, in May 1955 the sides signed a ceasefire, after both factions had come to the conclusion that neither side had a realistic chance of winning. The Communists, under their leader [[Max Bechtel]], had succeeded in claiming the south of the nation for themselves, while the Liberals kept control of the north, as well as the capital Ahlen. From now on, Leonstein was split into the southern [[Socialist Republic of Leonstein]] (SRL) and the northern [[North-Leonstein Republic]]. 
The peace only lasted until 1961, when tensions between the two states lead to an attack by the SRL and a second war, lasting four years after early offensives resulted in stalemate. 
After a final attack by the South failed, peace talks began, and resulted in a definitive recognition of both countries' borders. A DMZ was created between the two, and all trade and contact was made illegal. Spies and intelligence agents were now the only ones still trying to pass.

===The Third Leonsteiner War===

All was not well in the SRL. The socialist planned economy, which had served the country so well in the post-war years was now starting to crack under its growing weight. New developments in technology and weaponry meant that the state had to cut production of consumer items to steadily decreasing levels to keep up with the North. As a result, the populace became less and less content, occasionally beginning to protest against the Government. 
By 1982 Max Bechtel had become old and frail, and rarely showed himself in public anymore. His popularity had reached new lows, and his position became untenable. After a student protest could only just be crushed without an international scandal, Bechtel died in his office in Zentralia's People's Headquarters. It is suspected that he was poisoned by his guards on orders of the party leadership, but this has not been proven. 
His successor became [[Günther von Hagen]], a young and energetic officer who had made a name for himself through party work and excellence in his political and military education. He had not been anticipated by the North, which failed to see how dangerous this man would be. 
Hagen's first priority was to turn the SRL into a major military power. He believed that by crushing the rich North, the South could eliminate its productive shortages and move back on its path towards Communism. He termed his new ideology "Expansionist Socialism", and transformed the country into a war machine in a space of only two years. 
His attack on the DMZ came in the early morning of the 13th of January 1984. A vast tank army moved forward, supported by unprecedented artillery- and aerial bombardment. Due to the concentration of the offensive, the line was quickly pierced, and huge parts of the Northern Army were encircled. Nonetheless, issues with the mobility and reliability of von Hagen's tanks slowed progress and allowed the North to regroup its remaining forces in order to strike back. 
The counter-offensive was a success, and von Hagen found his forces pushed back as far south as Leonberg, with Zentralia under attack from missiles and bombers. With his victory threatening to go up in smoke, von Hagen launched a last desperate attack. It succeeded, and the Northern Forces retreated in sometimes less than orderly fashion, with the victorious Southern Army on its heels. The offensive was only stopped near Lemmburg, deep in Northern territory. It was here that the SRL expended its last strength, but failed to pierce the city's defensive perimeter. 
Von Hagen was insane with rage and disappointment. Feeling everything was already lost, he issued the fateful order to bombard the city with nerve gas. Having been trained from young age, his elite troops did not hesitate, and executed his order with terrible efficiency. More than 200,000 citizens in Lemmberg died of the attack and its after-effects.

===Trauma, Peace and Unification===

Life in all of Leonstein came to a halt. The attack was the single worst war crime the world had seen, and the true nature of the entire conflict was laid bare for everyone to see. Liberal party officials in the South rebelled almost immediately, removing elements loyal to Hagen, while the people took to the streets in their millions on both sides of the front. When Hagen's fanatic elite regiment was encircled by its own allies, most gave themselves up. Hagen made a dash for it, followed by about 50 of his most loyal soldiers, but was forced into the ruins of an old factory only about 20km south. In a final battle, every last one of the men was killed or committed suicide, and Hagen killed himself before he could be captured. 
The war was immediately declared over by both sides. For another year or so the leadership in the SRL was divided as to how things should proceed, but eventually the proponents of unification won. On the 20th of October 1987 the Federal Republic of Leonstein was founded, with its first Chancellor the Northern candidate [[Udo Hessler]]. 
Hessler mirrored the population with his demilitarisation and fostering of peace and compassion. The army was shrunk to a force of only 100,000 border security guards, and all traces of militarism were eradicated. At the same time, Hessler oversaw the creation of a new concept of Leonstein, where equal rights and equal opportunity were paramount, but the public interest was writ large. Imitating the concept of the "Social Market Economy", Hessler aimed to reconcile the differences between the welfare state and the pressures of globalisation. He died at the age of 84 while still in office in December 2003. 
Wolfgang von Bilgen, Hessler's economics minister and vice-chancellor, followed him in office and immediately called for an election, which he won by a small margin. His controversial policy of reintroducing compulsory military service and a more active foreign policy have seen public opinion sharply divided, but it is largely accepted that Leonstein cannot forever close itself to the realities of the world, and that it is the duty of any nation to stop such events as the gassing of Lemmberg from occuring anywhere on the planet. 

===A new place in the world===

Von Bilgen's reign was marked by changes both domestically and in foreign relations. Leonstein opened itself up to the world and soon realised that its size and enormous economic strength put it in a position of some influence in the region.

Still, the government was cautious and preferred to get involved in peaceful endeavours moreso than the conflict and competition that marked Liberalian politics at the time. It wasn't until [[Operation Helferling]] that Leonsteiner troops were actually deployed, despite the military having long since gained a position amongst the top few forces in the region.

Ultimately political infighting, scandals (particularly about Leonstein joing the [[Allies]] just as they began their campaign against [[Gmany]] and the [[LTO]]) and a gradual change in public opinion brought down the Social Democrats in the 2006 elections, with the OLP gaining a majority of seats. Von Bilgen's foreign policies were continued by the new Chancellor, Matthias Kasselbroek , but domestically the country devoted itself to more radical free market solutions.

The major break with tradition came when Leonstein actively took a position in the spat between the Allies on one side and [[Carops]] and [[Ardalia]] on the other about perceived aggression and a series of maneuvres, Operation Rattlesnake, held near the Ardalian border. Leonstein had clearly chosen sides and begun a long history of shaky relations with several regional powers, particularly Carops and the Pontanore.

Almost a logical consequence of this process was the decision to invade [[Joguk]], communist dictatorship and longtime neighbour when the country announced its alliance with Carops during the beginning of the [[Third Liberalian War]]. Even though the military made good progress and ultimately defeated the Jogukian military, this war ultimately ended with a political defeat for Leonstein. When a de facto peace was announced, Chancellor Kasselbroek had resigned from office along with most of the government. A caretaker authority was provided by [[Forthampton]], which had sided with Carops. Therefore there was a general feeling of being occupied in the country, which served to remind the people of Leonstein of the true effects of war. The new Chancellor [[Erich Wenck]] has announced that he will heed this lesson well and renounce the use of the military as a tool for everyday diplomacy.

XINDA is the only news program in the State that runs 24 hours, 7 days a week always with updated reports on issues that concern citizens on every topic imaginable. The XINDA network is a subsidiary of Caldari Telecom but bears the State name as they have ownership over the Agency itself. XINDA has a strict protocol for objectivity and even though the Government has a large margin of ownership they do not interfere with the news services itself (so they say...). XINDA by far is the largest of the news agencies but is not alone, however it is the only one that is half publically owned.

XINDA itself is heavily subsidized by the government, especially the Ministry of Truth as they own the majority of the agency itself. As a result there have been criticisms that XINDA itself is heavily pro-Nationalist and biased in its news reports. In truth, XINDA cannot perform by instructions of its owners as within its founding charter. XINDA has a wide range of media outlets. It owns 47 major newspapers, 61 magazines and 12 seperate news channels. XINDA itself is almost in its own right a media congolmerate. However since Caldari Telecom holds the main control over it, the government has firm control over both Caldari Telecom as well as XINDA itself.

===His Past===
Yakia Tovil-Toba was born in 1945 in Fort Williams in the Saba territory of the State (now under Caropsyne control). Currently there is very little known on his early childhood other than he was a big patriot of the State, much like many members of the Patriot Bloc of Corporations [including Kaalaikoita, Wiyrkomi and Lai Dai]. Between the ages of 14 and 18, Yakia worked as an public associate of his parent's member corporation, Kaalaikoita and was given an honorary position in charge of the Internal Security Department of the corporation.

When Tovil-Toba was at the age of manhood, which in Caldari tradition is 18, he joined the Caldari Navy, and was given an officers commission. After several daring raids into the Federation throughout the years prior to the war against the Gallente, he was awarded medal after medal for his determination and brilliance. Once the Gallente Federation finally caught the Caldari assembling their own small fleet and owning several illegal outposts and territories, the Federation attacked tp bring the State back into the Federation.

Once the newly created Caldari State engaged against what the Caldari thought of the Gallente as oppressors, Yakia immediately fought harder than ever. Months into the war, he was promoted to Commander after his brilliant victory over the Gallenteans in the Battle of Ubysia. His grandfather, Yakkia had given his life after playing cat and mouse against the Gallente Fleet in their own homeland for a whole week, his entire remaining men and equipment went on a crazy rampage, destroying everything in their path and thus they were eventually all killed. Yakia was given his grandfather’s title of Admiral as a sign of respect for the great deeds and the ultimate sacrifice for the benefit for the Caldari race. Tovil-Toba took the title and went on to win the war’s final battle of Iyen-Oursta.

After his victory in Iyen-Ousta, Yakia dissappered from the limelight and was not heard from for over three to four decades until just recently when he has been seen as the Party Chairman of the Nationalist Party, long to be have been censored and declared as an outlaw organization until after the Civil War. He waited for this. Then the Civil War erupted and he is suspected of having some possible connection to the detoration of the fragile democratic government that was allowed prior to the last President's death. Weeks and months passed and eventually the CCP emerged as the victor and took control of the State, now was the oppritunity he had waited for.

Tovil-Toba realized that the CCP was highly corrupted but it appealed to be highly popular and nobody was about to attempt to destablize the highly fragile Caldari society quite yet. He used this to his advantage and slowly converted the CCP's ideology of Corporate Socialism and molded it to an entirely new form of Nationalism. However as the CCP's grip on the State slowly decayed after poor reforms and long bureaucratic processes, Yakia went into action. His Nationalist Party members started spreading their agendas, plans and ideology on the population and slowly more and more switched their affilation from the Communist Party to the Nationalist Party, obviously the nation was frustrated. Then the Chairman, [[Zhu Qi]] annouced Midterm Elections for the Party Congress and the National People's Congress and at the end of the time period, the Nationalists had gained the majority in both legislatures. A few months later, the Nationalists initated a coup against the CCP and firmly took over under the leadership of Tovil-Toba. Over the last few weeks, the Nationalists, espcially Tovil-Toba had gained enough popular support that he decreed on March 22nd, 2007; almost nine years after the last President's death, that he was to be the State's Supreme Overlord. The people hailed him and admired him for both his past, his brilliance and his dedication to the people and the State.

===The Present===
As Tovil-Toba settled into his new official title, that of a eternal dicator of the State, he started implimenting the master agenda of the Nationalist Party outlined in the Dicate, the wise sayings and theories of his own. However a few dissenters have seen through the facade of glory and see him as a tyrannical leader who was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands during the Civil War and even now, supposedly over a million who have been labeled as enemies of the State. Already 1.4 million have ether been executed, sent to labor camps or have been deported for their disloyality towards the Party and the collective State. While his reasons for the purges can be seen rather extreme, his reforms set him apart from others. The Nationalist Party, under his leadership pledges to undo the economy's damage while it was under CCP control and bring about a return to Captialism with some Socialist ideals. He has also stated that he the people will be given universial healthcare, improved social security, widespread boost in public education and continue the Five-Year Plan of the Caldari Communist Party with amendments of the Nationalist Dictate. So far, no foreign powers have disputed his claim of Supreme Overlord nor have condemned his iron will against the people.

Windchimes, born Maria Peros, was the daughter of a prominent businessman and a university lecturer. Graduating from the esteemed University of RTIopia with a PhD in Political Science, she initially started writing political tracts advocating a form of government dubbed "pseudo-communistic" by the conservative regime at the time, and became famous in her field, becoming advisor to the Really Quite Large Left-Wing Coalition. After a period of travel around Liberalia, she was introduced to Rain Fog, then-leader of the National Hippy Party, and she adopted Hippyism as a political philosophy. At the age of 33, she won a seat in the Parliament sitting for the constituency of Nordchestershire, and quickly rose through the ranks of the NHP.

Windchimes was praised for her superb oratorial skills, getting the better of many of her parliamentary opponents. She was one of the principal authors of the NHP's manifesto in 1999, where they lost out to the Massive Left-Wing Collectorate, headed by [[Bernard LeBlanc]]. She was elected as party leader after the retirement of Rain Fog. After the name of LeBlanc was leaked to the press, and his previous public record uncovered, the NHP came to power, and have been ever since.

Miss Windchimes has been criticised as not being a strong leader since the leak of [[Operation Greensloth]], and is frequently referred to as being a "lame duck" or a "weak and feeble Prime Minister", among other things. However, it is probably a testament to her talent that she has managed to survive this long in RTIian politics.
