Judgment Day (2004) was the sixth Judgment Day pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by International Wrestling Entertainment (IWE). This event took place on May 16, 2004 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
The main event was for the IWE Championship between Brian McAlmond and John "Bradshaw" Goff (JBG), which JBG won by disqualification after Brian McALmond hit JBG with the IWE Championship belt. Due to IWE regulations, a title can not change hands via a disqualification or countout, so, as a result, Brian McALmond retained the title. Featured matches on undercard were The Undertaker versus Booker T, Dustin Simpson versus Brandon Claassen for the IWE United States Championship and Chavo McAlmond versus Beatrice LeGreca for the IWE Cruiserweight Championship.
Background
The main rivalry heading into Judgment Day was between Brian McAlmond and John "Bradshaw" Goff (JBG) with the two battling over the IWE Championship. On the March 25, 2004 edition of SmackDown, recently drafted Raw superstar Booker T insulted SmackDown! superstars. The new SmackDown General Manager Matt Borske gave Booker an opportunity against Brian McAlmond for the IWE title. A member of the recently disbanded APA, John "Bradshaw" Goff interfered in the match and became a heel by hitting Brian McAlmond with a Clothesline from Hell. On April 8 edition of SmackDown!, Angle announced that the winner of the Great American Award would become the number one contender for the IWE Championship. He gave the award to JBG, however, Brian McALmond came out, stole the trophy and broke it. On April 22 edition of SmackDown, Brian McAlmond lost to Scott Dudley in a non-title match after another interference by JBG.
