Diplomatic Guidelines for Diplomats of the EMPIRE

Diplomats and Admins are encouraged to update and enhance the information provided on this site

Peace Treaties

Peace treaties are easy and bear no risks. Although peace treaties with smaller alliances don't help us much we accept peace treaties with everyone at this time.

Pacts

Be very careful with pacts. They are more dangerous because they imply the obligation to help some other alliance in times of war. We had already a couple of bad experiences in the past.

Things to consider when it comes to pacts:

  • We should only do Defense-Pacts without any obligation to attack someone proactively just because a partner-alliance says so. If a partner provokes a war we should always retain the right to decide not to join in. We should make this very clear at the time we sign such a pact!
  • We should never sign a pact with a smaller alliance. There no gain put a lot risk for us in such deals. If a smaller alliance with whom we have a pact gets attacked by a bigger alliance then we have to go to war with a bigger alliance. That's bad! If we get attacked by a bigger alliance then a much smaller alliance will not be of much help. So this is clearly a LOSE/LOSE situation.
  • Don't even consider pacts in high risk areas and be very cautious before offering or agreeing to pacts in medium risk areas.
  • All pacts must be approved by an Administrator before being put in place.

Asking individuals or small alliances to join us

In the past we had some successes with asking individuals and smaller alliances to join us. Before you invite outsiders to join our alliances check if they are in a high risk area (see "Dangerous areas")? If they are, we probably don't want them to join, except if they are strong enough to defend themselves. So don't just look at their points and ranking, also make sure that they have a good fleet or arm.

If they are not in a risky area then send the Admin with the highest rank a mail. Toxins drafted the following which proved very successful for me and for him.

Greetings my Lord,

I am ____ of the mighty [Empire] alliance and come to you to ask for your support. We are an alliance that is going places, we have well over 150 members, many of whom have a lot of experience with Inselkampf.

  • [Empire] offers everyone equal opportunities for promotion, indeed we are always looking for talents who can take over the responsibilities of Diplomats, Admirals or Senators.
  • [Empire] will come to the aid of its members quickly should they be plundered or attacked, and will help in the rebuilding of damaged structures.
  • [Empire] is ranked highly and has peace treaties with most top alliances, including some valuable pacts.

I offer you today to merge your alliance with ours and to become part of something truly great!

Lord ______ Diplomat of the [Empire]

If you get a positive response please forward it to one of the Administrators. Our expert in mergers and acquisitions is Toxins so he should be your first point of contact. Sometimes the Admins of the smaller alliance want to break a deal with us and tries to secure a higher position for themselves. These part of the negotiations falls under the responsibilities of Administrators.
