Misanthropy came into being many years ago, founded by the goddess Natatia. Originally created as a highly organized and disciplined clan dedicated to achieving dominion over the realms, Misanthropy began to increasingly revolve around the worship of Natatia. As this progressed, the clan grew increasingly decadent and corrupt, becoming a haven of sycophants and hypocrites of the worst sort.

The apex of this decay occurred when a drow by the name of Vlain rose into the upper echelon of Misanthropy's ranks. Vlain was particularly corrupt, currying Natatia's favor by any means necessary, and his status as a pampered pet was frowned upon by many. In particular, Misanthropy's three officers, Xuri, Offel, and Herth, chose exile from the clan rather than stand witness to its further debasement. Shortly thereafter, two young members of the clan by the names of Rasser and Correus were promoted as replacements.

Then one day, Natatia vanished. The exact nature of her disappearance remains a mystery to this day. Some say that she was undone by pacts made with powers too terrible to name. Other theories suggest that the other gods, enraged by her crimes, finally rose up against her, exiling her from the realms. Whatever the reason, the founder and figurehead of the clan, as well as the focus of its devotion, was no more.

It was at this point that a god by the name of Belidus appeared. He remembered the Misanthropy of old: dedicated, disciplined, and free of weakness. With the assistance of those members who were judged to have upheld those ideals, Belidus conducted a purge of the clan, going as far as to destroy Misanthropy's old clan hall and construct the Obsidian Citadel, where Misanthropy still resides today.

Eventually, however, Belidus left the realms as well. The god Uzell stepped in as leader, but betrayed the clan, nearly destroying it in order to create the clan known as Dissonance. However, the god Enke intervened, decreeing that Misanthropy had a vital role in the realms.

He appointed his general, Auie, to the rank of Executioner in Belidus' absence, and one day another god by the name of Kiume appeared, offering his service to Misanthropy and its crusade. More recently, Kiume was absorbed into a mortal by the name of Iden who ascended into godhood himself, taking Kiume's place in the Misanthropic hierarchy.
