You looked from Alex, to the struggling Nathan. You knew Johnson had one hell of a soft spot for Alex, so he could probably get you out of any real trouble if he tried. You looked back at Alex, giving him your best puppy dog eyes that you could muster. Alex laughed under his breath, not needing an explanation to be spoken.
"I swear it was you who said Johnson would kill us if we kept ditching" He sighed dramatically "But I suppose I can cover for you, oh however shall I cope". He leans against the doorframe before slipping out. He gives you a thumbs up before he shuts the door behind him. You'll have to owe him one later. Poor guy.
You move your bag so its resting against the island top, leaning against the counter to get a view of Nathans handy work. He doesn't seem to even notice you're there. The pieces he's cut are frayed, and of no consistent size. The way he's chopping into them makes it seem like he doesn't even care at this point and just wants to get it over with.
