Pokemon: Untie Pikachu and send him in to fight it

As soon as you release pikachu it scampers away into the forest.. "Well, you really blew it now." You say to yourself. The pidgey is still there.. maybe you can catch it somehow.
Do you:
- Throw a pokeball at the pidgey
- Throw a rock at the pidgey
- Continue on without a pokemon
- Give up and go home
