"Are we there yet?" You roll your eyes. This is, like, the three billionth time your little sister has asked that question. You're still about twenty miles out from your destination. Dad explains once again, "Not yet," and carefully guides the car down the twisting gravel road toward Ferris Living History Camp.
Neither you nor your sister have stayed here before but she's already read all about it online. Ferris LHC presents 7 weeks of immersive adventure in a new historical period each summer. It's most well-known for it's medieval-era camps so that is why your parents waited until this summer to send either of you. It's the first week the camp offers this summer so you don't have high expectations. Maybe if you could have waited until the end of the summer so the actors could memorize their lines better... You sigh and shake your head. Probably best to stay positive until you get there and see the camp for yourself. Who knows? It might be fairly realistic.
At last, Dad pulls to a stop in one of the last open parking spaces. The camp grounds are swarming with parents and their adolescent children. Funny how a camp could be so popular when it's stuck out in the middle of nowhere. You're still feeling slightly nauseous from the twisted road so you take a couple deep breaths as you step out of the minivan. The scent of pine trees and a muddy lake fills your nostrils.
At registration, the beaming staff member hands you, your sister, and your parents paperwork to fill out. So many questions! Your sister's barely old enough to attend this week of the camp as her twelfth birthday is the day after tomorrow. You give your age. No, you don't have any friends you want to room with (and you are so not rooming with your sister). No, you don't have any allergies that you know of. There is, of course, the all important question that most determines what cabin you'll be in.
