After several agonizing minutes, you wait for your wife to give some indication of something. You believe she must be in shock, because she hasn't moved at all and her face is hiding whatever she witnesses very well. You decide to get up and walk to her to make certain she is alright. As you reach her she gives you a smile and nods.
She whispers, "I can't believe I saw it, but there it was. Plain as day. The first slap didn't show anything, except shock and pain. The second one showed just a hint of what you were talking about. It was hard to tell, since she was crying by that time. The way she looked with that last one makes everything very clear.
