"Bring in the Voltage Disruptor," you say.

<System: Selection confirmed. Recall device activating. >

The green outline of the small, hand-held device appears surrounding your robot's hand. The enemy robot takes a sudden step back in surprise, probably not expecting you to literally pull a weapon out of your ass.

You can't help but to grin as a flash signals the weapon is ready to go. It looks like a piece of junk, an amalgam of parts from a dozen different weapons pieced together to create something that only remotely works. Two large spindles of black wire are attached to either side of the weapon, with one end of the wires wrapped around two metal spikes in the barrels of the gun, and the other end of the wire attached to four, large souped-up car batteries on the back of the disruptor. In essence, someone could mistake it for a giant robot-sized homemade taser gun.

The opponent immediately takes off as your system tries to lock-on to him. He strafes around you in a circle, clockwise, He's quick, but from the targeting reticle on your screen he just isn't quick enough.

When he raises his robot's arm and points it toward you, you decide you'd probably best stop standing still and start strafing your robot to the right and closer to the wall to hopefully stop him from being able to circle you. Your hunch is proven true when the hand of his robot suddenly drops down, revealing a hidden machine gun barrel. He wastes no time in unloading his ammunition, firing at you somewhat wildly. Bullets ping off your shield, the wall, and kick up bits of earth around the feet of your machine.

<System: Shields down to 95%. Target lock. >

The sweetest two words that your robot's AI knows. You skid your machine to a halt, and jam down on the trigger.

The two metal spikes launch forth from your Voltage Disruptor, at a relatively low velocity, but that's the whole point. They strike your opponent's shields, and the reduced velocity allows them to pierce instead of having their energy deflected. They tink into the upper left leg of his robot.

You jam down on the secondary fire button on your off-hand's control stick, and a surge of electricity shoots from the batteries, up the wires, and right into your opponent's robot.

<System: Energy reserves down to 80%. >

Your opponent is lit up like a christmas tree as electricity surges across his robot. Unfortunately his systems aren't as disrupted as you were hoping for as he is still able to aim both his arms toward you and open up with the machine gun hidden behind either of his hands.

<System: Warning! Shields down to 90% and dropping! 89%... 88%... >

"How much damage has he sustained!?" you call out at the screen.

<System: Enemy shields dropping in strength. Category degraded to lightly damaged. >

"If this keeps up, who will drop first?

<System: Estimates indicate that this confrontation will end in your victory if the status quo is main-... Error! Recall device malfunction! >

"What!? What do you me-" you begin, but don't even bother finishing the sentence as in another flash your Voltage Disruptor has vanished completely. Two scorched holes remain in your opponent's leg but aside from that there is no sign of your weapon anymore.

"What happened!?"

<System: Recall device malfunction. Opponent's jamming device is interferring with the link between recall device and pocket dimension. Weapons will be of limited use, one or two shots or seconds of sustained firing could cause malfunction. I also no longer detect the Voltage Disruptor's transponder signal. Assumed side effect of it being shunted back due to the jamming device. Suspect all weapons shunted back this way will also become unavailable. >

"That's just great!" you say, your voice dripping with sarcasm.

<System: Shields down to 80%. Recommend evasive maneuvers and a new strategy. >
