“Why not?” you say.

“Excellent,” says Harvey cheerfully.

“Isn’t the job dangerous? I’m not going to get killed, am I?” you ask.

“Not if you do it right,” he replies. “Come on, I’ll introduce you to my boss.”

He swings the door open, revealing a small room. The room is significantly brighter than the hallway and the floor is dry. There are a few pieces of furniture in the room: a large card table in the middle, some collapsible chairs surrounding it, and a couple floor lamps in the corners. A man is sitting in a chair across the table. He is wearing an expensive suit with a blood red tie. A bald spot on his forehead is creeping up his skull, driving away his well groomed black hair. He has a deep scar his neck, just below his right ear. He is reading a paper as you and Harvey walk into the room. He looks up at you with his icy blue eyes, stares at you for a moment, and then says to Harvey, “Is this the recruit I asked you to bring?”

“Yeah.” Harvey replies.

“The boss looks over to you and says, “Do you have combat experience?”

“I was a soldier,” you reply. An expression flickers across the bosses face, just long enough for you to see it. “I served in Afghanistan,” you add.

The boss grunts, “That’s a good answer.”

“He’ll be a great assassin,” Harvey says.

“I hope so,” grumbles the boss. He turns to you. “Being an assassin ain’t like being a soldier, kid. It ain’t all ‘bang bang drop ‘em dead’ kind of shit. You don’t have any buddies out there. If you get caught no one’s going to bail you out. You’ve got to kill people silently, without anybody even noticing that they are dead. You’ve got to make clean kills. It’s a whole different frame of mind.” His gaze drops down to the page he is holding. “We’ll set up something of a training mission for you.” He focuses his gaze on you again. “I’ve got a client lined up here. It’s a real simple job: sneak into the target’s home, kill him, get out. No strings to get caught up on.” He looks over Harvey and hands him the page “Agent Indigo, you’ll be guiding the tenderfoot through this one.”

Harvey nods and says, “I’d love to, sir.”

“Tenderfoot,” the boss continues. “If you carry out this assignment well, we’ll sign you onto our agency. Do this mission poorly…” the boss sighs and rubs the scar on his neck. “This is a high risk, high reward business. Mess up and your life will be on the line.”

The boss rises from his seat and says, “We’ve been here long enough. It’s dangerous for us all to be in one place for too long” He firmly shakes your hand and says, “It’s a pleasure meeting you.”

“You too,” you reply and drift off, searching for a name to call your new employer.

Seeing your difficulties, he responds “Call me Fisher.”

“Oh, and my name is…”

“No, I don’t want to hear it. It’s best if we keep anonymous. To protect each other. Fisher’s not my real name. It’s just a codename.” He starts to shoo you and Harvey out the door. "Matthew 4:19," he adds with a slight smile. “Now, please go. We’ve been here too long.”

Harvey and you leave the room and Harvey locks the door behind him and returns the key to the lightbulb he found it from. Looking at the paper, he says, “I’ll pick you up at about nine in the morning, okay?”

“Yeah, that sounds fine,” you respond.

The two of you walk down the narrow corridor. “I’ll pick up some equipment for you,” Harvey continues. “Some guns, knives, a lock picking set. You know, typical stuff. I’ll give them to you when we meet up tomorrow. Sounds good?”

“Yeah, that’s fine,” you respond.

“And I shouldn’t need to tell you this, but don’t tell anyone what you are doing or where you are going. Just make some shit up.

“Yeah,” you reply.

You and Harvey return to the car and head home.
