You sit close to her, backs to the nearby dead body. As she cries a single tear you reach out and wipe it from her face. That touch, the presence of human kindness all of a sudden becomes too much for her to bear.
She falls into your arms crying uncontrollably. Loud sobs begin to ring through the afternoon sun. You feel the moisture on your shoulder spreading as tears fall.

Whether it was the realisation of what had happened or the pain of the bullet wound, it had clearly all become too much. It had however become a distraction.
