Your hand jerks toward her before you can think better of it. The bolt leaps from your palm with a crackling roar, striking the Chief Mage squarely in the chest. A brilliant flash fills the hut. The scent of scorched fabric and something far worse fills your nostrils.

When your vision clears, she is gone. All that remains is a charred heap of robes on the floor and a few wisps of smoke curling toward the ceiling.

The hut is silent. The Chief Mage is no more.
